Good afternoon gentlemen,
I'm planning to buy a knife like the Spyderco Crow - that is, a utility one but that also come in handy for self defense if needed.

I'm from Italy and I recently moved to Arizona; so I wonder: can I carry this guy in my jeans pocket? I ran a search into your forum, but honestly I'm not positive.. I understand that the blade length and the kind of knife are important (and the Spyderco should comply), that I better avoid to carry it in government buildings and airports (it's ok with me), but it seems that I have to carry it in open.. sounds odd for a self defense tool (best self defense element is surprise).

Thanks for your time and answers, regards
Erminio

Edited: I just found that
"13-3102. Misconduct involving weapons; defenses; classification; definitions

A. A person commits misconduct involving weapons by knowingly:

1. Carrying a deadly weapon without a permit pursuant to section 13-3112 except a pocket knife concealed on his person; "

So I should be allowed to conceal a pocket knife.. but how do you define a pocket knife?

Thanks again
Erminio

Arizona's law is vague. It doesn't look like there's any limit on length for a folding knife for the state, but make sure you take a look at your county's laws along with any municipal codes for cities you frequent.

Since the Crow's length is under 3 inches though, it's unlikely that any county or city ordinances that may exist will prohibit it.

There's no length mentioned in the law. However the AZ Attorney General has stated that it's his opinion that an "ordinary" pocket knife would be less than 4" in blade length. At least, that's what I've read somewhere (packing.org?). Whether his opinion means a damn thing, or whether the AG that said this is still the presiding AG, I don't know.

The law doesn't mention autos (switchblades) or balisongs (butterfly knives). However, it's generally accepted that it's best to carry these openly rather than concealed. Same goes for fixed blades. You can carry whatever you want openly in Arizona. Guns, knives, whatever.

Where in AZ are you moving to?
