Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong area. I was just curious to see if anyone knew the IMPACT strength of titanium, specifically spec 3 in comparison to 17-4PH stainless steel. If not just general IMPACT strength between titanium and stainless steel in general would be great. Thanks!

As I recall from stuff I read in the past its quite good but where it really shines is in the extremes of temp. Severe cold for example. I understand ti does a lot better than steel at temps below frigid and beyond. Also on other forums where forging is being experimented with forged titanium has proven to have quite remarkable impact toughness. If you want numbers about all you can hope for is the stuff like JW just gave you but real world uses like battering and dropping and that are going on. There are no real numbers to play with from it but you get a kick out of some of the photos and videos. Its pretty obvious the stuff when worked right can take a beating of severe impacts quite well if you ask me, at least once hammered out and reheld over hot coals for a while. I don't remember the forum but it was one of the makers on knifedogs playing with forging titanium and it had some impressive stuff in that thread.
