I just got this LE 532 and the COA says it's Impala Bone and burlwood.
Do Impala's have black bones? It would seem more like horn to me.

Hi PBD,

FYI,

It is buff horn, jigged to look like Impala horn.

Someone correct me if I am wrong. But FYI in case you find some raw African horn, it can contain a insect larva that will leave you a custom "hole-eeee" scale. And go on to damage others. Not a problem in antlers as they are shed.

Yep, that would be the case!!

Tin Sue,Thanks for answering this.I thought you'd know. However,it should be easy to kill by water soaking, alcohol or low heat(125-130*range).Even over night in the freezer.DM

Buckaholic,Your site gives the 501 Squire.DM

Roger that DM. I should have qualified it as such. Just referenced it for the description of the material as it uses the burl and jigged buff as well (I think ).

And, you DM, can call me "Goose". My friends and family do. Someone else on BladeFoums had grabbed "Goose" already :(

Correct! That is why it is essential to treat almost any horn here. We have some nasty critters and most custom workers treat and inspect the horn and bone before it is used. Usually any animal that dies of natural causes and has lied for a while in the bush can't be used.

......

Maybe you should have taken "g00se" (that's two zeros)...or "big broken boned biker"... :D

Rant Alert!!!

You've touched a nerve with me, Marv...It seems that *every* forum I go to has "Rich B" already taken...or at least that's what the error msg reads...So I'll pick another name, like Sarkee...and *that's* taken...so I'll try "myxzilfyx" or some such, and it tells me *That's* taken... :grumpy:

Now, there may very well be another "Sarkee" (my late beloved Doberman)...but "myxzilfyx"??? :jerkit:

It's like the Forums/web sites refuse any username until after the third try...

/rant

To get back to a somewhat on-topic comment...I still have a set of Mastodon tooth scales...I sometimes wonder if they don't contain some million year old virus just waiting to be set loose...But then I think, Scott Hartman has been working with this stuff for years and he's not dead yet... ;)

Here's a Duke 500 with Impala Bone scales. You can definitely see the difference between it and the jigged buffalo.

Hey Rich B.,
Wow, what a great idea..."g00se". Dang, and all this time I just thought you were a looker. Smart too.
Anyway, "big broken boned biker"?
What gives you that idea?
Oh, ...I get it now; gouged right leg...rear foot peg punched me when the scoot landed on me, busted left foot, five face fractures.
BTW, I was wearing a helmet (saved my life...third time) and packing my 119 (gotta keep it "Buck" related ;))

Ok, I get it now. It's actually buffalo horn jigged to look like impala horn, but called impala bone. Makes total sense to me.

In any case, I'm happy with it and it appears that I got a deal on it. The web site where I bought it lists them at $87.78 and I just watched one end on the Bay for $115.

I know this thread is old, but I can confirm that this is indeed Impala but imported from Siberia Buck made this series in late 80's
They then made the Buffalo Horn Version in 1995 for Bass Pro Shops.......

Yours is not a look a like Impala Horn ........it's the real deal..........I also have one BTW

FYI, it's poor forum etiquette to dig up an old zombie thread and add comments to it (At least 3 of the great men who made comments in this thread have passed away, one of them was the OP). If you need to add to the old thread, start a new thread and link the old one to the new one as reference.

Also, you are incorrect, what Buck called Siberian Impala series knives were the 500, 501, 503, 505, not the 532 that the OP has posted in this old zombie thread.

Here is the 500 series knives (what Buck called Siberian Impala)

Here is the 532 (Jigged Water Buffalo)

Sorry if I have offended you, I am also deeply sorry to hear of the passing of these guys, although I never knew them they obviously meant a lot to you and I suspect other Forum members.
As you can see I am very new to the particular website and I am unfamiliar with the etiquette expected by members, I genuinely tried to help out the OP with good news, despite my comment being incorrect as the photo on his post was impaired by the watermark, and as I was using my phone to research the knife I have ,and the OP's knife looked like the very same one (which it is not as I have the 501 version)

So first of all, thank you for correcting me, as it does answer a few more questions I had about this Custom series, and thank you for explaining that commenting on older threads is bad etiquette.
I shall keep this in mind whilst using this forum moving forward.
