the centering on my nrg 2 is pretty bad and i wanted to know how to fix it. i have tried adjusting the pivot screw but i get blade play if i adjust it to the center

Try this in varying degrees until you get it right. Loosen all screws then one at a time starting from the back to the front ( not pivot ) gently tighten them , adjust pivot with the blade closed , not open. With a bit of tweaking you should be able to get to your desired position. sometimes it takes me a while and sometimes it works right off , doesnt matter what brand or model either.
hope this helps.

I've had good results with this method (originally from this thread):

Hi, welcome to the forums. This is centering method I've tried on some other knives. I think it's worth it to give it a try.

1. With the knife closed, wedge a folded piece of paper between the blade and the side of the knife that you wan the blade to move away from.

2. Loosen the pivot screws and the other scale screws. Don't take the screws out, just loosen them.

3. Tighten up the screws without taking out the paper wedge.

4. Adjust pivot to desired tightness.

I hope this works for you.

There's also this one (originally from here). I once saw a good video demonstrating this method on the internet somewhere, but I couldn't find it. Seems to me it was demonstrated on a ZT 0551 but I can't remember for sure... *EDIT* I found the video, in it the guy is using the following method to adjust the knife's lock-up, but it can also be used for centering:

Disassemble it, put pressure in one direction on the back scale, and opposite pressure on the front scale...tighten it up. If that doesnt work, switch the direction of the pressure. Do the scales before even bothering with the pivot. You can also close the knife and hold the blade against the slab you need to move towards when tightening the screws.

I promise, you can tune them all.

Apply pressure to the scales/slabs along the long axis of the knife.
Shifting the sides of the knife in relation to each other in this direction will change the angle of the axis of the pivot in relation to the handle.

Here's a diagram.

Reverse directions to get the pivot to shift the other way.

I just fixed a stout new lockback folder by opening the knife & bending it toward the direction that it's off-center (if it sits too far to the right, bend it that direction when open). It now sits a tiny hairsbreadth in the other direction. I also centered my Benchmade TSEK sprint with this method.

Make sure the pivot isn't too loose first. Carefully bend it over the arm of a computer chair or something. Do this with moderate force the first time, close it, open it, & check. Gradually use slightly more force each time.
