I picked up a strange little shell handle Imperial in mint condition that has a key as its secondary blade. The key is designed with a slot to fit onto the pivot pin, I'm guessing this is so that the key could be cut at the dealer and put on after the car was sold. It is printed on one side with "A. B. Poe Motor Co. Bring Your Car Home For Service." I would like to ask anyone out there who might know when these were made, and if they were useful as an emergency key? Thanks.

fiftys and sixtys. They work. I have a couple and some of the replacment blanks for them. Yup when you changed cars you could have a new one put in. After looking at the blanks it would seem that the key blade should be interchangable. Although I do not know how to do it. I do agree they were designed this way for a reason. I believe it was a forgotten aspect of these knives. When I pulled these out I found a couple of old odditys I had forgotten about these smoker knives from mperial had a built in lighter there are two versions represented a stainless and a stainless with cell insert. Thanks for the pictures LT, the reverse of the knife has Pontiac and Chrysler brands on it and the key is stamped C which I guess is for Chrysler. Strange items like this are always fun to find. It's a neat idea, that's for sure. Shows how much the world has changed, as it comes from a time when people assumed that even if you lost your keys, you wouldn't lose your pocket knife.
