You probably know this, being an Imperial collector, but here goes...

First, Imperial knives haven't been made in Rhode Island since the 1980s when production was moved to Ireland.

Second, even before going bankrupt in 2004, Schrade closed the Ireland factory and began producing Imperial-branded products in China.

Third, it's been five years since the Imperial-Schrade bankruptcy when Talyor Brands, LLC bought the rights to the Schrade products. They began importing from China immediately.

My point, this is nothing new.

And furthermore, if your use of the nonsensical word "NEESE" is some sort of racial/nationalistic slur...

they started with old timers, then uncle henrys, and now i saw a imperial stamped "new", 2 bladed jack tonight and ....
Wrong. Uncle Henry and Old Timer knives were still being made in the USA when the first Imperial knives were contracted from China.

The exact opposite could happen. When the Imperial-Schrade factory closed and the Old Timers' production was switched to overseas, the value of and demand for Schrade-USA Old Timers went through the roof.

Brady me mate, I fully understand your post and I share your disappointment to find Imperials now being cloned as well,.....furthermore I fully support your right to express your opinion on this 'open' forum..the response you received is typical of the reasons I no longer post along with many decent knowledgeable folk who used to post over the past 5 years on this forum. I still remain in constant email contact with many Schrade collectors just not on this forum. Dont weaken mate. Hoo Roo.

I'm sorry you feel that way Larry, you're still one of the Good Guys in my book.

Honest, I don't know why Brady's post struck a nerve last night, and I bet he's a swell guy too. Perhaps my tolerance for "righteous indignation" has become saturated. There's just no point in becoming upset all over again about something that happened five years ago, and was already happening with or without the bankruptcy and with or without Taylor.

I'd also suggest once again that Brady look at the Silver Lining. The Schrade bankruptcy created this "golden age" of Schrade collecting, with increasing demand, increasing values, and increasing collector interest. I'd even go as far as saying that this Collectors sub-forum, with all of the great folks and deep well of information, would not exist if not for the increased demand for Schrade information, a direct result of the company's 2004 liquidation.

Best Wishes,
-Bob

Ahhhh, nice to see things are cooling off in here:thumbup::D

Bob that's a real oddball, looks like one of the cigar box classics, but with an old timer shield. I don't recall anything like that unless it's a lunchbox special/end of days, gonna have to do a little digging.

One thing about Imperial, not ALL the production moved to Ireland, only the Jackmaster lines. Schrade and Imperial merged in 1984 (after being partners since 1947) and most production was moved to Ellenville once the mucho grande factory was built in order to consolidate everything under one roof. Some production was even moved to Camillus.

I'm not an expert on the Imperial lines, but I haven't seen a USA Imperial for many, many years. And I'm not sure which sub-brands and models are considered "Jackmaster". AFAIK, I don't have any Jackmaster models.

Here's a list of Imperial knives from my collection that were made in Ireland:
Apex
Camper knives
Tradesman
Frontier
Diamond Edge
And a few 'plain' Imperial pocketknives, like the peanut and fruit sampler.

My suspicion, anything made in the USA received the "Schrade" branding, while anything from Ireland was labeled "Imperial." Obviously I expect a hundred guys to chime in with exceptions... :D

That's one of the Old Timer Classics. There were several standard OT models released as 'Classics' with bone handles and nickel-silver shields.

You want to see a real oddball, check out this eyesore:

Thanks guys, I'd completely forgotten about those:confused: , and to make matters worse I even have a couple of those empty display cases not six feet away from me! Looks like I'd better start filling them to keep my memory refreshed:D

Bob, I erred in not including some of those later products. Here's a quote from one of Codgers previous posts that explains the Ireland connection (the Stag plant is the Listowell, Ireland plant):

"IKAC purchased the Stag Cutlery in 1977 with Henry Webber placed in charge. Not long afterward, Baer bought the other stockholers of IKAC out (circa 1983), and began moving the Providence, Rhode Island works to Ellenville. Until some time after that, the production from Ireland was mainly sold in Europe. Then the Ireland plant began producing low price point knives to replace those previously made in Providence circa 1990 (Jackmaster, Apex and others such as the Tradesman lines). By 2003 there were labor and financial problems which made production and importation from Ireland unprofitable, and ISC began moving production of some items to the U.S., Taiwan and even China. In further cost cutting measures, on March 18, 2004, Imperial Stag/Imperial Schrade Europe, a subsidiary of US-based Imperial Schrade Corp. laid off the last 13 workers of the 70, and closed the Listowel, County Kerry Ireland factory after 43 years. Alas, it was too late to help ISC's financial woes. The company went into forced bankruptcy in July of 2004 during their 100th year. "

The Diamond Edge and Frontier products that were produced in Ireland were the lower end products from those lines, such as the wood handled DE's and the cheaper Frontier slipjoints.
