Found a few pages that had info about this knife. Auto toothpick made by Imperial. Pretty cool looking knife. Anyone ever have 1 of these that they can tell us about ???

I confiscated one a few years ago from a "gentleman" (autos are illegal in Canada).

I wasn't impressed with the quality, or fit and finish. The handle looked cheap (plastic), and the blade had massive play in every direction. Of course that's not to say the knife wasn't abused by its former owner.

There was absolutely nothing special about that knife, IMO.

I've never owned any, but I do know that they are sought after by some switchblade collectors, in good condition. You didn't ask about value so I feel free to add that one in good condition can sell for around $200.

One problem is, the shell-wrap handles are celluloid, and as celluloid gets old it releases nitrous gases that are corrosive to the metal around it.

Should have let the guy keep it. It’s obviously more of a fishing knife than weapon. What do canadian cops do with confiscated pocket knives?

The laws are the laws - unfortunately I don't make them. All auto knives are prohibited weapons in Canada. :(

They are turned in as evidence, photos/video taken, fingerprinted/DNA if required, and then destroyed after the DA concludes how they wish to proceed (ie, what charges).

What a waste. Bad karma for a knie knut just say no to unjust laws :)

What a waste.

The joy of living under a monarchy. Everything that is not prohibited up here is considered a privilege (ie. driving, firearm ownership), we have no constitutional rights to keep and bear. And privileges are easily and uncontestably revoked with little recourse.

I will say however, I am not actively looking to find prohibited knives - that's pretty far down on my "to do" list. Don't do anything to attract my attention and then stupidly escalate the encounter (as this fella was doing), and you'll likely end up going home with whatever was in your pockets in the first place.
