Hi -
Brand new to the forum, but I've gathered up enough knives over the years that my wife has started asking me what I'm going to do with them and where I'm going to put them, and I have no good answer for her. I'm more an accumulator than collector.

One of my grandfather's knives was an Imperial. It still is. Single 4" blade, which has (what looks to me like) a bottle opener behind the blade. On the spine, there are serrations, starting from the tip and going about halfway up the spine. After that point the serrations stop. Thing is, the serrations are not at all sharpened.

So - what are those serrations for? Scaling a fish while the knife is closed?

It is a fisherman's knife. And yes, for scaling fish. Other features common on them would be a hook straightener or a hook sharpener. Most knife companies made a version with some or all of these features.

Thank you very much - I surely appreciate it.

I'll have the canoe out tonight. Maybe we'll get a chance to see just how well that scaler works.
