My son found this old Imperial today in a 2nd hand store. It appears to be a shell handle Imperial fixed blade. He polished it up a little & we put an edge on it.

Does anyone know anything about this knife, original price, date of manufacturer or anything?

My son is catching the disease! :D  :D

Congratulations on having a protege, orvet! Thanks to you and your son for the picture! I've never seen one of these!

I grabbed this brochure off of the actual display. It is from 78 with a minor change to the design of the pommel they used it and also had some variations, for years. This is not much info but it is to late, and I am kind of jammed up to get more right now. I spent yesterday out on a lake fishing it was pretty good except for one big guy who kept getting more fish than me I didn't mind he was feeding his family they had moved in a couple of years ago I guess he deserved the fish more than me since he was a much more graceful fisherman I watched him for several hours. If there is anything more majestic than the American Bald eagle I have not seen it. I was given the undeserved pleasure of seeing him actually returning to his nest which could be seen from my boat ( without even using glasses ) to his mate and offspring. Man was that great and on the forth of July what did I ever do right to deserve to see such a wonder. LT

Here is the catalog listing from 1959 for the H38. Wholesale price at that time was $6.70 per dozen. I have had one of these for quite a while and always thought it was IKCO's answer to the Western States Black Beauty knives.

Thanks LT & Codger for the info.
That is great. I will show it to my son when he gets home from work. I am surprised that these were in production as late as 1978, I thought they were much earlier. Do you know when the started production?

My son has been collecting knives since he was a kid. He has quite a few knives, but loves to find an old knife and fix it up. He has also made several himself. As a kid he was always helping me work on cars, fishing reels or whatever. He used to save his money, that he earned or got for his birthday, and have me take him to Sears so he could buy good tools.

It is a lot of fun (now that he is grown) to work in my shop with him while we both make knives.

Thanks again for the info.

Dale,

As you know, there is nothing more precious than the time spent with your children doing stuff like that. All too soon they get off on their own.

I used to do stuff like that with my dad, but at that time, I didn't really want to be there helping him installing a car stereo, etc. Now that his health is starting to falter a bit, I am grateful for the time we spent on that stuff, and the time he took to teach me skills like soldering, woodwork, etc.

I only wish that I could get my son more interested in my hobbies, but at least we can spend time playing video games together. I guess it has not become "lame" to spend time with your parents for him yet.

Good stuff, Dale!
