Anyone know about these type of chains for damascus? Like off of combines, augers and the like? I see tons and tons go dirt cheap at auctions. Today a bunch sold for 50¢. A 4' x 4' x 3/4" piece of stainless diamond plate sold for $100. I sure thought I had a chance to get it at $30. Guess not! It probably would have been worth the money but I didn't have it to spare.

No reason it shouldn't work, I've got some bailer chain I've welded up that looks solid, will be the first chain I've completed if it works. I added a couple of ball bearings and a couple pieces of 15&20 and a piece of file to add a little carbon and contrast. What little experiance I've had with it is that the carbons a little on the low side, Tiawan chain, the american would probly be better. Might be alright with a water quench.

Just make sure that it doesn't have any plastic in it and you should be alright.

The guy having the auction started working this farm in 1939. Everything was old! :)
Thanks! :)
