Important Announcement Regarding The New SRT Line.

The reception to the new SRT line has been overwhelming. Since its announcement we have received countless emails regarding this new line and a few recurring themes have continued to surface. First and foremost, the excitement over the SRT line is far beyond our expectations.

Secondly, many have requested that we begin to offer our knives without sheaths in order to allow the customer to decide which sheath is right for them. In regards to this request we have handpicked a small number of sheathmakers to build for us. After we have made contact with all of them, their names will be announced. We hope to have this accomplished within the next few days.

Third, we have been put to the fire over the prospective names of these new models and we must admit that simply naming them after their blade-only similar counterparts could prove to be a bit confusing and a bit of an injustice to both the original and the new SRT model. There is little doubt that the larger handled SRT line is quite different from the standard line and this difference is not only in appearance but in feel, balance, and application. The extra length added to the sub-hilted style handle along with its rearward palm swell, provide it with a unique “two position” grip. Choked up near the front it offers great control of the blade, especially when the “trigger” style guard is employed. When gripped along the rear palm swell section of the handle, chopping power is dramatically increased as is the overall leverage of the piece. Couple these with the other obvious differences and we quickly realized that giving them similar names is likely to cause confusion among the Swamp Rat “unRATtified” and “uninitiated”. In light of this, we have decided to give the new models names that will set them apart from the original line.

Therefore, the first model out of the gate will be called the “RATWEILER”. This blade-similar cousin to the Camp Tramp is an amazing knife and should prove to be one of our most popular models. For those who have already ordered this model, we will change the model name for you on your order form.

Thank you for your time and if you have any questions or comments please do not hesitate to contact us via email at orders@swampratknifeworks.com

Thanks,

Jennifer Busse

Too Cool! Ratweiler!!!:D OK! I now have an idea for my next leather carving project!!!:D Anyone game?;)

Jennifer -

May I suggest the blade-similar cousin of the Battle Rat be named the Ratmastiff and the 1st cousin (once removed) of the Satin Jack be named the Rathuahua.
The Ratmastiff has a massive body, broad blade and powerful build and a character of courage and grandeur.
The Rathuahua is a big blade that happens to be wrapped in a small 'parcel'. Ready for any task, even those that would make other knives tuck tail and run.

Well, at the risk of being flamed a bit, I think the name is kinda silly. Note: I purchased a BR this summer from SWKW and LOVE it. You would not believe the stuff I've chopped with it (including the heads off a few dozen perch last weekend). Rottweilers are great dogs, unfortunately, they've been co-opted by mall ninja punks and gangbangers. As a parole officer, you may have NO idea the neighborhoods I go into full of rottweilers turned nasty. So the image kinda conjures up for me the whole urban gang scene. I love all the other SRKW names...clever and fitting the products. Ratweiler just sounds like something you'd stick under the front seat of your lowered 87 Chevy Cavalier next to an illegal sawed off pump while yer "rollin the hood"
Other than that, I'm sure I'll buy one. :D :D :)

RVO,
Those are awesome--I have one question, though: how are you saying the second one? With the 'th' together I think people will naturally say it as "Rathoowawa" and possibly miss the dog connection. I wonder if adding the 'c' back in to make Ratchiuaua would work, as that's just fun to say...

"RatchuWAWA!!"

Either way, I like the notion. :D

Warren,

I thought about that but when I checked the pronunciation in the M-W Dictionary here's what I found:
Main Entry: Chi·hua·hua
Pronunciation: ch&-'wä-(")wä

So I figured I would just replace the "Chi" with the "Rat". Perhaps SRKW could include the phonetic spelling on the site and slip a note in with the blade when it ships out.

Glad you enjoyed my suggestions!

since it is not overly small but meduim sized like the Catahola. It is a very stout knife like the Catahola dog plus I like the way it sounds :D

Do we really want to name a manly knife after this? :p

Ratweiler is good, but little dog are the worst animals in the world. I would be very disapointed to see a SRKW knife named after a chihauhau. But I would still buy it. Maybe. :)

:barf:

I have an Idea! How about Swamp Rats only be named after big, manly dogs that deserve to have knives named after them! :D

labrador ratriever or labratdor (sounds too much like 'lab rat')
golden ratriever
grathound

All seriousness aside, Ratweiler is a cool name. Some take on German Shepard would be even cooler, but I just can't see where to stick rat in german shepard?

Jack Russels (JRT) are awesome! I know one personally that is the most dedicated killing machine I have ever met, in a dog. 15 pounds of certain death to cats or rodents. Hard to imagine that cute little furball on your lap is so deadly. Jack Rat? Jack Rattle?

Really dislike Chihuahuas. I think Raterrier is more desirable for this aplication, if that is the desired direction. As all Terriers are known as loyal, dependable, couragous and very tough regardless of size. My $.02.

For the Battle Rat Tactical I'd suggest a matching large breed:
malarat or ratamute
Irish rat hound
Rat Dane or Great Rat
Rat Bernard
;)
