Some time back I recall reading (not sure if it was here or on rec.knives) that it was no longer against U.S. regulations to import balisong/butterfly knives.

If anyone has this information, including section of law, please pass it along. It would be of use to a knifemaker.

I work in federal law enforcement, but that is not my area and I thought it would be quicker to poll the resident experts here than try to find it on my own at this juncture.

Thanks,

last year I too heard of this new bill and all my efforts in finding the info were in vain so what I did was just call the customs authoutiry who gave me a big fat no.. and they stated the switchblade act.. after futile attempts I got the cold shoulder from the gentlemen.

Many importers and lawyers will tell youhat this is really a gray area sory I cou;dn't be of more help.

Yeah, Clay, I was really wanting to try to help "you know who" as quickly and expeditiously as possible without sticking any more of my body parts into the IA meat grinder.

I don't need any "conflict of interest" issues with 3.5 years left until I can pull the plug.

Oh well, I tried. At least nobody can say I didn't stand up for my friends.

I just hope that he can get them back. Maybe we can dismantle them and call them something else (just for a little while). Seems like that is what a lot of the companys are doing when they say it was made in the USA (parts some where else).
I feel especially bad since it was to show me how they worked and such.
Maybe when I learn how to "put it all together", I will stamp the first one "numero uno" and present it to him for all his trouble. I know it isn't French for number one but I just don't know French words yet.
Well, back to the shop and makin' knives.
