It came to my knowledge today that Luciano had a pretty bad fall and broke his left arm.

He had broken that arm before and had some hardware on his bones that were removed in surgery just a few days before he took this fall.

He went into surgery again and will be in need of care for at least 3 months. I will call him tonight to learn about the extenses of the damage.

I don´t know if any of you have orders pending, or would like to send good vibes, so I decided to post about it.

I think Luciano doesn´t have health insurance... I will also ask him about this. He never accepted deposits on his orders, but today one of his students told me he is selling some recently built machinery from his shop... so you get the picture.

Anyway... will see how he fells about this too tonight.

People interested in details are wellcome to send me PM.

Godspeed Luciano.

I am so sorry to hear this!! I hope he gets better soon. i will send my prayers.

Hey, Luciano, I remember you, the handsome Brazilian bladesmith
who displayed the beautiful process of creating a Mosaic Damascus
knife for my book "... Modern Custom Knifemaking"!

I hope you will recover completely and very soon!!

Here is the two page section where Luciano Dorneles displays the
process of making Tape' in 2005...

All the best, my friend

Called him last night... he had some work done on his left elbow a few years ago and, as I said before, he went into surgery just before new years to remove some of the metal hardware to alow the bones to grow back.

But his elbow became weak in the first few days due to the lack of support of the metal pins, and a stupid every day kind of fall messed up his arm again pretty bad. He has some metal things sprouting out of his arm and will heal in a month or two.

Right now he´s only grinding blades he had forged before the accident. His bladesmithing school had it´s classes canceled until further notice.

One of his best costumers is a great ortopedic surgeon and I think most of his medical expenses were taken care of.

I, myself, offered to pay in advance for some services I have been saving for but Luciano kindly refused. He also said a good amount of costumers with orders pending offered to send deposits/advancements if he needs to, so he´s managing the financial issues alright.

He´s also taking this healing time to evaluate a lot things (as any of us would when confronted to our human fragility) and that it has been good to do that in many ways.

Well... that is it. Thank you all for your support.

This is a good and reassuring update, Jeff, THANKS.

All the best,

That is sad news but it sounds like a recovery is on the way and he has a lot of support.

Hopefully Luciano will be back to full strength soon. He does great looking work.
