Importing the S.A.T. & Arc-lock into AUS

Thanks for your swift response, SIRGLANT:thumbup: . I doubt Wellingtonsurplus would have a problem importing them even if they are classified as prohibited weapons, as they are a business which specialize in outdoor goods which makes it easier for them to acquire a permit for the importation.
For an individual knife lover like me it would be alot harder to acquire the permit.:o What i want to know is whether the blades with S.A.T. or Arc-lock will be technically classified as "Ballistic knives, being knives that discharge a blade as a projectile by a spring mechanism or other means." or " Flick knives (aka switchblade knives) or similar devices, with a blade that opens automatically by either gravity or centrifugal force or by pressure applied to a button, spring or device in or attached to the handle of the device.":(

Can anyone from SOG, or fellow SOG lovers confirm this for me? Your help would be greatly aprreciated. Many thanks in advance.
Jack.

if you`re interested in an aussie knife forum , www.laventrix.com . people who chat on there have brought in benchmades whcih have the axis lock , and i think even some s.a.t folders

and yes customs tend to conviscate the s.a.t folders as switchblades . if i were you i`d just bite the bullet and pay wellingtons prices. or you might try www.elitesteel.net and ask Jason what he can do for you. all these link/options are listed on laventrix by the way. don`t forget , theres no interstate customs in australia

SIRGALANT makes a good point that the low risk option is to buy a knife that has already been imported. You know your costs upfront. Other than that, your options are:

Get some details about the knife you want to import. Provide the details to customs along with a request for inormation about the status of the knife from their point of view. If they say it will be ok, retain evidence of this and present it if you have a problem. This process is not particularly difficult, or

If the knife is legal to own where you live (sound like it is) but is not acceptable to Customs, there are procedures to import it anyway as long as you have the blessing of your state police. Customs can advise you on the procedure - it is a bit long winded buy not that difficult, or

Buy the knife and see what happens. The worst case is that it is confiscated or you have to re-export it. This can be expensive, so you need to be reasonably confident that there will be no customs objection to the knife.
