I took my village and BAS khukuris out the same day I did an Aki Machete I am testing, and didn't know until the next day that I had dropped the karda from the village Dhankuta model out in the field when I was testing it. I will have to rig up a kydex sheath for those that attaches to the leather one somehow as they aren't held all that well. The leather sheath is great for the khuk, though! Anyway, that was Monday afternoon and it sat out in the sun, mud, and rain on Tuesday (as well as the regular humidity). It rained a lot on Wednesday night and Thursday morning, and it was hot and humid the rest of the day. I finally got out there tonight and found it right at the stump I had been torturing. It has rust spots and mud all over it, but it cleaned up super easily. I was very impressed!

Not too surprsing Chiro.
It seems that when pounded metal is hardened and polished up pretty nice it tends to shrug rust off a little better.
Oh wait a minute. You said the Villager didn't you?
Well pounded and hardened steel then.

If it is like my villager there is no polishing on it.

They do have a certain charm though don't they?

I have an old Spanish blade from a very cheap knife.I paid $3.00 for it back in '78-'79. I was really impressed with that little thing. The blade was super hard and holds an edge forever. The handle was plastic and molded on. The handle broke some time ago and I used the knife to cut literally everything! It has set in my old shed for the last 18 years.I took the rest of the handle off and I am gonna resurrect it as a longer karda blade.
It is a very highly polished blade.

There was little rust on it after all these years!!
I was pretty amazed.

Actually, I mentioned that little karda when I first got my villager. I said that the karda looked like it came from a different maker because the blade was nicely made and very well attahed to the handle. Also it was highly polished. It didn't fit with the rest of the set, but maybe the guy was experimenting that day or something!

I think the khukuri itself wouldn't have fared so well in those conditions as the raw steel finish seems to rust pretty easily. That little karda is a champ, though!

Sometimes when a package arrives from Nepal a few kardas and chakmas have escaped and bounce around in the parcel -- sometimes nicking scabbards much to my regret. Chiro the one you received could have been the result of a mix up.

Ahhh...I'll bet that's what happened! The chakma, despite it's functionality, looks like it fell off the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down, but the karda is pretty (or was until I let it sit in the rain!). I'll bet that's what happened...I feel sorry for the poor chump who ended up with my karda!
