Just got a new Byrd Hawkbill 2 off the forum. I gotta say, I avoided Byrd knives up until now as I just figured 8CR13Mov was probably ok but not as good as 420HC or 13C26. After using the knife last night to open several boxes, cut a bunch of cardboard for a packing job I had to do, cutting some onions up, and cutting a bunch of bubble wrap and plastic box ties, I gotta say, I think 8CR13Mov holds an edge noticeably longer than my 420HC or 13C26 knives, two steels which I have lots of time with. The only thing I'd say is 13C26 seems finer grained and takes a wicked sharp edge on the sharpmaker, sharper feeling than the 8CR13Mov seems to feel when sharpened to the same level, but both take a great edge. I'm impressed with the knife itself too. Lock up is ROCK solid, serrations were cut with the same quality as my VG-10 spydies. FRN is well finished. Blade centered. Liners skeletonized. Now as far as warranty, I know these are only covered if something is wrong out of the box, but if I break a clip or lose a screw later on, they'll sell me one right? Spyderco has parts for these right? I mean this thing is too good to just toss if something minor fails on it.
