Impression of a Large Villager Khukuri

Got word today from the People's Post Office( Canada Post) that there was a parcel for me. Turns out this was the villager Uncle Bill mentioned in this thread here.

My Impression:

First, reasonable job done by HI staff in cleaning up the blade prior to delivery. I did note a couple small spots that looked like the steel may have been burnt in sharpening this khukuri, but this could have happened over in Nepal. I'll know more once I give this khuk a good workout outdoors.

This khukuri is well proportioned and is a real user's khukuri which is exactly how I plan to use it. Handle is rough, but rough in a manner to ensure a good grip. Handle has been repaired where there was a crack, but will get a bit more epoxy and a touch more sanding and then some boiled linseed oil just to finish things up to my satisfaction. As it stands, this khukuri felt comfortable in either of my medium large hands. Bolster and buttcap are rough untempered steel. Prior to initial use, I will likely give this khuk one more thorough going over before giving it a good rubdown with Marine TuffCloth and then periodically thereafter for maintenance purposes.

Karda and chakma are in similar character with this khukuri and are big enough not to feel like toys.

The scabbard, as mentioned in the previous thread, split, but this can be remedied easily to ensure a functional and safe scabbard is available.

At this point, I am generally satisfied with this khukuri. Once I complete finishing this off and then giving it a field workout, I will know what kind of soul this khukuri has...

Thank you, Uncle Bill and Himalayan Imports.
