Hi Folks,
Just to pass along in case it's useful for anyone.
For my first multi-tool I bought a Leatherman Super Tool 300. It is very nice, heavy and large, but very robust with nicely done blades and tools. It's heavy, but I got used to having it on my belt. It's a bit heavier than the Buck 110 folding knife I sometimes carry on a belt. The ST300 is awesome to have out in the field, but even when I got used to carrying it on my belt I am still aware of the weight and bulk. After having the ST300 for a few weeks I bought an original style Leatherman PST, mostly out of curiosity. My first impression of the PST was how small and light it is. Compared to the ST300, the PST is a baby! I think for heavy tool use the ST300 blows the PST away. However, the PST is so light and small that I do not notice it on my belt. Because of this I am wearing the PST everywhere, whereas the ST300 is relegated to field work because of its weight. As I result, even though the ST300 is a better heavy duty tool set, the PST is getting a lot more use and has actually helped me out more due to the fact that it's so light it's always there at the ready. Now it's the PST for every day, every where carry, with the ST300 on reserve in my bag.

The PST is a still a great tool. I still have mine I got years ago in the scouts. Only complaint with it is how bad it hurts your hands if you really have to out the squeeze on something.

You put your finger on it  :D . A PST was my introduction to pliers based multi-tools. Until then, I had carried Scout or SAK type pocketknives exclusively. I spent almost as much time admiring as using it, but there were too many drawbacks. I had to carry a bandana instead of a handkerchief so I could have something to pad my hand in times of serious pliering. Worse, there was always a point at which the handles would start to bend. An electrician friend wrecked two of them with his grip (admittedly, his was kind of like 2 separate gorillas, but still!), including mine which I had traded him for something I don't remember. Frankly, although I thought pliers a big plus for a pocket tool, I liked the idea more than the actual thing. OTOH, the Super Tool was a different story. It was love at first sight followed by a nine year EDC.
Nowadays, I use a Super Tool 300, a worthy successor to the original, for serious business, and a Charge TTi or Rebar for out and about. Leatherman did a good job with these. IMhO, the Rebar was what the PST should have been.
