Over the weekend I went to visit a knifedealer friend of mine to see what kind of new "goodies" I'd get to take home with me. He had a few new imports and showed me a VTech TitanX:

I had a bias against it, but my friend offered a generous deal for several knives, and offered to throw it in for free as part of the deal. First off, let me say that my "bias" was the fact that it resembles the Chris Reeve Classic Sebenza. However, unlike the Sebenza, it is not a framelock.

It is a small folder with a 3 inch cutting edge AUS-6 blade Titanium Nitrate coated blade that looks almost like boron carbide. It's got a glossy black finish which easliy picks up fingerprints, but it is a nice finish nonetheless. The handle is anodised aluminium with a glossy black finish and a nice texture like that of the Gerber Air Ranger, only a little less aggressive. The pocket clip is positioned for tip down carry and rides deep in the pocket. The overall construction is impeccable thanks to CNC machining.

Curious about the company and wondering why they copied the Sebenza's profile, I tried to search for their website, but I found nothing. My friend deals with Moteng, but all I found on their site were a few other VTech folders (including a Benchmade Osborne copy) and a few fixed blades. Incidentally, Moteng seems to be the only "distibutor" of VTech knives I could find.

While I generally don't care for knockoffs, this little knife is surprisingly very well made and will be put to use, despite the obvious Chris Reeve "inspired" design. I suppose I'll get criticized for having a knockoff, but since I got it for free, I might as well use it.
