Went to the woodpile after work to let out some pent up aggression from some knuckleheads I work for.
As I was chopping sections out of a large branch I saw something fly away from my knife.... So I quit hacking and investigated. It was the front bolt from my handle! :(

Searched high and low for the nut but no luck.

I'd been thinking of drilling a forward lanyard hole anyway, so I'm going to see if this works out.

For anyone who hasn't tried a forward lanyard on a big camp knife, you should. Instead of keeping the knife attached to your wrist, it keeps the knife planted in the palm of your hand. Very secure.

I tied a square not in one end of the cord, and a slip knot in the other end

I did this so I wouldn't have a loop hanging off my knife all the time, now it's just a single strand. No snag hazard

I'm not sure how this will work out, so I'm going to try it out for awhile and see if it works.
Oh, I added thread locker to the remaining bolts.

I replaced my bolts with stainless and locknuts. Good $2 upgrade.

Look up the constrictor knot - will hold very tight and not work loose.

I am lucky I haven't experienced that yet. I'd check out the hardware store and see if you can get a replacement, though the forward loop may be good as is. Maybe things worked out for the best.

I prefer to use a regular pommel lanyard looped around my thumb, and then across the back of my hand. A forward lanyard let's the blade fly dangerously close to your hand if the knife slips from your grasp, whereas a rear lanyard means the blade will always end up pointing down. Also, how does a single strand keep the knife in your hand if it slips?

Haze240, check out the 3rd picture. I just slide the slip knot up and it's know a loop. And the knife doesn't go anywhere with a forward lanyard. If you loose your grip it stays put, like you're still holding onto the knife. A forward lanyard is a requirement for knives in bladesports competitions.

I know the hardwear is easily replaceable, I'm going to see if this works. If it does, great! If not, I'll replace them with stainless hardwear right away.

My Bk 9 had 10-32 x5/8 bolts and nuts, I keep hearing they are supposed to be 10-24 x 5/8. check what the others you have are just so they match. Doesn't matter which you use as long as they are the same as each other.
