I have carried my Impulses for a week or so now (I bought two), and would like to share some of my thoughts on this knife.

They were certainly the sharpest knives out of the box I have ever had. And the fit and finish/QC were very nice for the price point as mentioned by most reviewers.

The blade has funtioned well in the kitchen and around the home for me. As a for instance, it didn't fracture blocks of cheese when cutting them like my AFCK does even though the AFCK has a higher grind. Cutting Styrofoam, cardboard, paper and transplanting herbs and making starts of many herbs for Christmas giving all went well with the Impulse.

I did have to clean out the holes a lot, especially that decorative first one when cutting up the cheese for a party. It sliced the polenta and frittata quite well, again requiring a touch more clean up than a standard blade design.

Another quibble is with the popular clip. At the top of the clip near the pivot there is an access cutout coupled with a decorative flair that results in a sharpish corner. This cutout is just the right size to overlap most pocket seams and actually adds to a more secure clipping action. It also puts a point under pressure on the fabric seam for clipping in to and out of the pocket and creates quite a bit of wear. Please round this point more in future versions of the Impulse. It might decrease the molded look of the clip side some, but the improved wearability would be worth it.

Even with the 10 degree edge grinds, I never chipped or turned the edge in these moderate cutting tasks as I feared I might.

I plan on giving the extra Impulse as a graduation gift to my nephew. I think I'll give a few more as gifts to others in the future too.

I hope this knife has a long production life so I can continue to purchase, give, and use such a good knife for such an excellent price.

Thanks for the comments Phil.

As far as making PBJ's or spreading cream cheese on your bagel, the Impulse does require more cleaning time than most knives. There is definitly a tradeoff here in cleanup for three holes that make the knife look really cool, reduce weight, open the knife one handed and as James Mattis has pointed out are great for blowing bubbles. IMO I believe the plusses outweigh the minuses when it comes to the Impulse blade slots. Then again I have not yet spread peanut butter with this knife and don't plan to (I hate cleaning).

As far as the radius tip on the clip, your point is well taken and neither I nor Darrel noticed this in our original design. It would require a tooling change or hand operation to round the tip but may be worth looking at. The hems of all my jeans are already frayed so I never noticed the Impulse clip would cause extra wear.

My only real request was for a slight modification to the clip. I like knives with clips and the Impulse clip is a nice one. And the requested improvement might not be worth the extra cost either.

I like the looks and balance the front hole gives the knife.

I look forward to the mini verstion.
