I am looking for ways to improve the grip on my sirupati. When I take a grip it seems fine , but after little it is slipping . It's not from fatigue , it's the very smooth horn grips . I live in north Alabama where it get in the upper 90's , lower 100's on a regular basis , with humidity to match. I was thinking about checkering the grip . I have already used 800 grit sandpaper to rough it up a bit. It looks and feels like neopreane grips you find on handguns . Any suggestions would be helpful .

If you don't want to make any physical changes to the handle try some of the sports tape like you see for handles on tennis rackets and the like.

If you want to modify the handle try some hatchmarking.

Khukuri FAQ

Lee Valley has a number of high friction tapes. The one I use is green, $4 a roll, and sticks only to itself. You hand will not slide across this tape. All my khukuris have it wrapped across the top of the grip and the first bit of the blade before the cho.

I myself don't like wearing gloves, but I think it's worth giving a try in your case. A thin golf glove will fit tight, and hopefully will not boil your hand inside.
