Ok so I'm over here at JBB in Iraq and I decided that the one knife to bring along would be the RC-4.

As I figured the RC-4 has proven to be an excellent deployment knife and has dealt superbly with every task I've put in front of it.

The only problem has been the MOLLE clips. You see, I've carried the knife every day and depending on what I'm doing on a particular day I'll carry it on a web belt, a vest, IBA, a pack, or even scout style (which I used to be sort of against but have grown to appreciate). The clips held up pretty well for the first month or so of real use but they have since died from stress and bending and whatnot.

Luckily, when they finally gave out I had a spare M16 double mag pouch with me. I quickly put the sheath inside the pouch and secured it with the screws from the molle clips. Then I cut some slits in the cover and stitched them up to prevent fraying. It all took maybe 15 minutes.

I know it's silly, but it's a practical sheath mod and I anticipate it functioning and suiting my needs just fine as well as standing up well to my abuse.

Doh! I'm having trouble posting the pics. Oh well you can find them here:

Here you go brother. Cool mod. What about paracord belt loops/lashing for whatever application?

looks good to me, and i like the handle mod you did  and thank you for your service

Hey thanks for putting those up!

Para cord works good for the web belt or a regular belt but it's a bit of a pain to use it to attach the sheath to molle loops. Especially since I don't use the same carry setup every day. If it stayed in one place (a vest, for instance) all the time then 550 cord would work great.

Not a problem. I see what you mean about moving it from one rig to another.

Thanks for posting and stay safe brother.

Cool mod .
instead of the clips do you have the Molle Back for the 4 ? it would work great in your application.
Thank you for your Service & Be safe !!

Great ingenuity!

Thank you for your service.

I see the MOLLE back for the 4 only ships to US addresses - is there a problem sending this out-of-country or is it just an ESEE company policy thing?

It's an idiot proofing policy, they ship outside the states just need to email and setup shipping etc

also, pretty sure TKC or knifeworks can set you up:

I was at JBB last year, my unit rotated back to the states in Aug 09. I used a Tactical Tailor MAV instead of the issue MOLLE vest was able to mount the kydex sheath for my Strider VB behind a mag shingle. I also was able to pick up one of the SpecOps sheaths at the west side PX which was MOLLE compatable and gave me a couple of additional mounting options.

Thanks for your service. May I ask what is carrying "scout style"??

Scout style, as Charyou said, is small of the back, hip carry is sometimes called "western" carry.

Scout style can be very comfortable with the right knife, to the point where you can sit in a chair, or walk naturally without hitting the sheath with your hands. Not everyone likes it, though, since you need to reach to the small of your back to sheath and unsheath your blade.

It is also a popular concealed carry style under a jacket or long shirt as it often doesn't print the outline of the hardware.
