The great thing about this forum is that everyone is open to new ideas. Whatsmore we are not afraid to try something new and give feedback. An excellant way I have found to improvise a 'neck carry' sheath is to use the common "Mini Maglite" holster. With a little sewing on the bottom portion of the holster (to affix paracord) you'll be ready in no time. The benefits I have seen is that the man made materials mold to the shape of the Bali without overstretching. Also the seams are double sewn for strength. The belt portion on the upper holster keeps the Bali from touching the skin and causing irritation to those with allergies.
Please let me know what others think and are using to replace the expensive commercial sheaths!

You'll probably never hear the end of this, just because some of us feel it's just that good. It doesn't address the issue of metal touching bare skin, but for the new Benchmade titanium handled ones, they should not be an issue. All the improvised solutions pale in comparison to:

The one objection I have with your mag-light sheath is that over time (6 to 8 months of daily wear), once they've developed their new "memory" for the bali with the molding that occurs, and the cordura weaves start to spread, the nylon will no longer supply the adequate friction to hold the bali in place in the upside down position. Ballistic nylon is known more for their abrasion and tear resistance, not at maintaining fabric integrity. Once they're stretched, they don't return to the original weave. The thread counts are just too low for that type of wear resistance. At least we don't have to deal with the velcro.

Take a look at Clay's neck carry sheath mentioned by Tony. If you like that method of carry and don't mind a little metal to skin contact....they are unbeatable! Fit and finish is just excellent!

Pretty slick idea with the MagLite deal, but have you used one for EDC with no breakdown in holding ability??? Arrrrrrrrrgh! We hate to lose 'em!

Anyone else tried that.., it's a new one to me. Very creative!
