Today I was out shopping with my wife and I spied a Buck 119 NIB on sale at a big discount. It didn't take me long to realize that it needed a good home. The last 119 that I handled belonged to my best friend during our college days, almost 50 years ago. I remember it fondly, and I believe it had a black leather sheath with a protective fold down flap. My new knife has a different type of retaining design which is good, but it deviates from what I remember. Bottom line, this is my first Buck 119 and I'm glad to have it! (I can't believe how sharp it is.)

You can buy the "fold over" sheath as an option on the Buck web site. Enjoy your knife.
Thanks, I just looked it up. But the new sheath would end up costing what I paid for the knife and the new sheath, so I'll have to chew on that for awhile. Does anyone know if the new Buck leather sheaths with the plastic inserts dull the blade (like the Cold Steel Secure-ex sheaths do)?

if ya rub against, it might. i have never done that myself with the 119 sheath. so I think youll be fine.

the Buck sheath design isnt as snug so its much easier to not rub.

You can take the insert out also
I took it out and saw that it would be really difficult for the plastic to dull the blade because the edge doesn't contact the liner. So back in it went for a better fit and also for protection from the metal part that is exposed inside the sheath.

Yeah, I've poked the tip of knives thru sheaths that didn't have that liner.
I like that it's there.

Congrats! I've done that numerous times. As a result I have 5 or 6 119 and 120's.

Print this out and think of it as a wish list
