Abrahms that is. I used (and abused) my serrated black coated model this past weekend while building a fence in my backyard. Let me tell you, this is one solid knife. I used it for everything from cutting the strapping on pallets of lumber and cement to opening cement bags to cutting through sod (and rocks and hard Georgia clay) around the postholes. It got wet concrete, mud, rocks (and just about anything else I encountered) jammed between the liners/scales on a regular basis. With nothing more than a goodly whack against a 4"x4" post or the wheelbarrow the dirt and debris came loose and I could close it and slip it back into my pocket.

At no time did it fail to lock or stay locked. There was not even a hint of lock failure under moderate twisting and severe fouling of the mechanism.

The *only* damage from all of this abuse was severe wear to the black coating on the blade. This tool has been used and you can tell - but only by the cosmetics. The lock is still solid (I'm talking Sebenza-like) and the liner engages in the first 1/3 of the tang just like when it was new in the box.

I wanted this knife as a user and it has far exceeded my expectations so far.

Kudos to Mr. Bloch and Mr. Ralph for an excellent design and outstanding execution*.

* For the record that I had, upon first receiving the knife, ground the exposed liner down. It would easily disengage using a "white knuckle" grip. Once that was done I was unable to induce lock failure under any circumstances.

Now, THAT'S what I'M talkin' about!
That is the very definition of the term "using knife"!
Anybody who has doubts about this knife needs to read this topic.
Thanks for posting this. I've been acquiring so many knives in the last year that I haven't had time to put my black Impulse thru the wringer like you. It's satisfying to see that it'll go the distance in the real world of a work knife and come out begging for more.

Yep, the Impulse is a winner. I carry mine quite a bit, and use it at least twice a day. It is very durable, and does what I need it to. I suppose if I encounter a job that needs an even stouter knife...I always have the Magna

I hope more and more people continue to give Outdoor edge a chance, thier stuff is very impressive.

Ghecko, Glad to see your knife held up well. I , however havent't had the same luck with my Magna. The lock would easyily defeat with the spine test and there was significant blade wobble. I sent it back to OE for repairs and I am waiting for its return. I hope it comes back as solid as your Impulse. I am also interested in exactly what you did to the liner. It might help me with some weak locks on other knifes.

Dan, sorry to hear about the Magna, hopefully it was just a lemon.

I used a rotary tool to very carefully remove the bit of the liner that stuck out from between the scales. I think Edge Tech / OE makes it a little oversized so that it's easier to close. But, in my hands it was easy to close with a meaty "white knuckle" grip and a slight twist. I removed enough of the liner that it sat recessed between the scales. I can still unlock it when I want (thanks to the slight scallop that OE/Edge Tech put there) but it will no longer accidentally close. In my opinion the oversized liner and scallop are redundant. The scallop is all you need...

Never had any problems with the spine whack test - I've tried it a few times and the Impulse held. But then again, I don't put much faith in that particular test so your mileage may vary.

The Paragee will be even better. SS frame lock. I like the frame lock design. It dead solid. Even if you wear it to vertical play it will lock. Its comfortable in the hand .
The first version will be 3 in size . Then if all goes well 4 in size.
The Impulse and Magna are great knives.

David di a good job.

Darrel,

Maybe this has been adderssed in a previous post, but I've got two questions about the Parogee:

1) Any idea if OE/Edge Tech will display them a the Blade show in Atlanta,

and 2) Any idea what they're going to use for the blade steel?

Jon

It's good to be back and thanks Ghecko for your hard use Impulse review. Looks and style aside the Impulse is a solid performer.

To Dan Kutch. Sorry to hear about your Magna. We QC each piece that goes out the door and yours must have slipped through. Just want to let you know we'll make good on it.

To Ghecko, we are working to complete the pre-production proto of the Paragee in time for Blade Show. Production will be later this Fall. The 3" Impulse will definately be on display at Blade. On the Paragee we plan to use AUS-8A for its solid performance and easy maintanance.

I haven't used my Impulse that hard, but it is my daily carry knife. Also, I have to say that David's customer service is top notch. Thanks for a great knife and great service.

To Dan Kutch:

We received back your Magna today and yes it was a lemmon with poor liner-blade fitting. A new one went out today so you should see it early next week.
