Impulse or Magna??

I'm looking at an Outdoor Edge knife. It's between the Impulse or Manga. Any suggestions would be very helpful.

The knives are completely different in design and expected function or purpose. What will you be doing with the knife?

General Carry.

First of all, don't buy one yet. Remember; we still got the drawing coming at the end pf the month, which will get you BOTH, as well as the "Name a knife company" thread, which will get you the knife of your choice.

In answer to your question, I'd go with the Magna. The clip is detachable, and the pins are accessible to the consumer; you'll notice that this is not the case with the impulse. Personally, I don't like the idea of a recessed clip. It'll either tug at your clothing or bend the clip. Of course, this is just my assumption. Feel free to prove me wrong, and I hope you enjoy whichever you buy!

Whoops, forgot something. I don't usually like recurved blades (I sem to be the only one), which you'll find on the Impulse. I also don't like blades with black coating, as it can't be reapplied. Again, I hope you enjoy it!

For general carry, I'd go with an Magna....but if you want more of a "cool" knife, the Impulse.

The Impulse is cool because I like the Krait

Do the holes in the Impulse assist with one hand opening? Kind of like a Spyderco hole?

Have any of you Impulse owners tried taking out the rubber inserts and adding something fancier?

I was thinking of buying one and doing this, I just wonder if it's feasible...

Both are nice knives. Have you handled both yet? That can be the tie-breaker. The Magna has, for me, a great feel in the hand. Both are great values and you probably can't lose on this choice.

I own one of each.They are both great knives for the money but are quite different.For daily carry,the Impulse is much more practical,The Magna is a very heavy duty(big and heavy)knife,very satisfying in the hand,less so in the pocket all day.The Impulse is also half the money.

I'd have to go with everyone else and say foe general carry, get a Manga. The Impulse is if you just want a really cool knife.

My non-knife friend just got an Impulse and he loves it. I saved him from getting a S&W POS.

I've had my Impulse now for about 2 months and love it. It fits great in my hand and pocket. Mine is the uncoated plain edge version and I've used it for light cutting: cord, opening packages, etc. I haven't handled the Magna, so I can't comment on that knife. Just my 2 cents.

I have the Impulse and love it. Unfortunately so does my son! I have my Bush Ranger up for trade right now and looking for the Magna in trade. I can comment on the Impulse and it is in a word EXCELLANT! Fit and finish is beyond the money spent it is that good. I can imagine the Magna being better just cause of the cost. The steel takes and holds a great edge and the liner does not FAIL! Least ways on my Impulse it doesn't and the feedback I have read suggests the same thing. The Impulse is half the cost of the Magna though. Either or will make you happy. Keep'em sharp and Merry Xmas

well..it depends on how you use your knife.
as a every day light to medium duty i'll go with the impulse,light, quick and good looking. however if you are a heavy user and need a knife to really work with i'll go for the magna.it is built like a swedish vault.
best solution? buy both..the impulse for the suit and tie and the magna for the overalls.

The Impulse looks really cool and the blade style feature I really liked. Not bad for a not too expensive knife for it's price. I prefer the Impusle w/ it's opening device kinda like the Spydey hole. Liked that sandvick steel, sharp!

Note on cost: The Zytel Magna is about the same $ as the Impulse (even the non-black Impulse).
