I found a Spyderco Vesuvius online in good condition, and I could not stop my hand from pulling out my wallet. Does anyone have any insights? I like the compression lock but know nothing about ATS-34 steel.
You'll find a few opinions on ATS-34, ranging from a step above 440c and grouped with 154cm (they say the composition is the same, but I find ATS-34 to be better than 154cm). I think it's a great steel and from BM or SPCO it should perform very very well.
Can't speak to the steel, sorry. However the compression lock is one of my real favorites and you can be sure that Spyderco will have done the best job possible with any steel to get it to perform...in terms of hardness, heat treat, grind, etc.
Googling this, I found info that the model with compression lock is discontinued, due to high rate of lock failure. You just found a collectible item!Googling this, I found info that the model with compression lock is discontinued, due to high rate of lock failure. You just found a collectible item!
