The Impulse sounds like a great knife, but I can't figure out what the slots on the blade are for. Do they effect the strength of the blade? Thanks for any info.
Now don't I feel silly? For some reason I thought that there was a thumb stud, but I just took a closer look at the knife. But why three? Is it to fit different hand sizes?
The two slots closest the handle are for one hand opening. In most cases I prefer the middle slot. I can't quite reach the front slot for opening but thats how Sasquatch opens his Impulse
.
Kidding aside the three slots also reduce weight and give the knife great balance. Not to mention plenty of style. Does the front slot add a lot of utility to the knife? Not
really, but it sure looks cool.
The slots were designed for weight reduction and style. The biggest purpose was for opening the knife (if you live in a winter area of the world) with gloves on. :]
Try it ... its much better than a thumber..
Leo's and military love this feature. They are in the cold quite a bit.
Two questions from a soon-to-be Impulse owner:
(1) I understand the Impulse frame is aluminium. Is there any problems with the steel blade and aluminium frame binding or corroding the steel at the pivot? I've heard some stories that aluminium and (some)steels don't mix. I'm sure that's not a problem here but would like a better understanding.
(2)Please describe "The Spyderco Drop" opening.
Thanks

The drop opening is grabing the hole in the blade and snapping the knife open. As for corrosion NOPE there are nylon washers between the blade and frame. They do not touch.
