In a shtf situation what would happen to your collection.

A friend and I were talking about shtf scenarios and asked me if he could have one cause I wouldn't be able to carry them all so I might as well give him one now, my reply was no, if sh*t did hit the fan I would make up my mind then about what knives I would keep and who else they would go to.
My question is what would happen to your collection in a shtf scenario?

Well, define SHTF: If it's a nuke, everything's vaporized or glowing so it's academic.
If an EMP or some other grid-stopping disruption, your collection is instantly worth its weight in gold. Most people have whatever knives are in a kitchen drawer. Good working knives will be hard to come by. Many don't even own a SAK. Same for axes, machetes, tools generally. Google 'things that disappear first in an emergency'.

Hanging onto your collection, or anything else worth having, in a SHTF is another topic.

My 'collection' is relatively small, and consists of knives I use in rotation for camping, hunting, etc. In the highly unlikely event of shtf, they will get handed around my family and friends.

+1 to ozgooner and tallahassee.

The most functional ones would go to whoever is with me. The fluff would get sold or traded as needed.

I had the same conversation with a buddy with firearms, I can effectively equip 9 or 10 people...

Throw it in a duffle bag and carry on. They would make excellent bartaring item as well.

If you look at the 10/10/80 ratio of wolves/sheepdogs/sheep. I would say 65% of the population would be in dire straights, I think that is being conservative.

The custom Kressler and the Sebenza would go with me in a bag. I would carry as many Beckers as possible--the 9, 2, and ESEE 6 would be there for sure.

The other question I got was how many would you carry?
I was thinking of a 3 blade system, something like a candiru, a tops BOB and tops power eagle 12

I would separate them into categories of usefulness, tactical being the most important, then bushcraft, then utility. The utility knives would have their blades removed to make booby traps, the bushcraft fashioned into spears and the tactical ones used for crossbow arrows. None would go to waste

Luckily I have a small collection and could almost bring all of them.

I have thought about digging a hole and hiding some extra tools at my bug out location.

As I'm reaching middle age I'm confronting a whole other SHTF scenario - what will happen to my knife collection when I die? It really made me think about maintaining my collection and records in ways I had never thought about before. I think this is the most likely scenario for all of us. It's fun to think about the zombie apocalypse but eventually the S actually will HTF for all of us and where we're going we won't have a use for any of 'em.

Realistically, most people are 110% out of their #$^@%^@ mind regarding "What I would grab" etc.

If it truly were to reach the level of the fan, it would be chaos. People seem to have this false notion of being able to drive (yea right) to their house, load up their vehicle with their desired goods and then leisurely vacate the premises and trek off into the mountains........

BFS.

Realistically, whatever you slip into your pocket that day is going to be your collection until 1 of three things happens guys......

1: Things subside at which point hopefully your home/collection wasn't absconded with and you may retrieve them

2: you die, dead bro. no coming back.

3: you never return.

Well, we had a major earthquake here in my area around 2012. There was a subsequent tsunami warning. I took my guns(with lots of ammo) and important papers in the car and moved to higher ground. I left my knife hoard in the house. The knives I took with me were the knives I had in my pocket and in the car.

I wouldn't give any of my knives to a "friend" who asked that way too.

Collection? Lol. I have users or they are sold off. Anything I refused to carry, my sons eagerly would, and then they won't be collapsing from the weight either.
