It was a wonderful day for a walk in my favorite wood. There were plenty of wonderful sites for my camera's lens to capture. Please enjoy, I fear that there will be fewer and fewer from my haunts as time goes by.

The reason for my depressed submission.

They showed up within the last month. I hope the are just clearing a new forest road, and not some new subdivision. It's a WMA for crying out loud! What the hell is going on!

that sucks john. chain yourself to that thing in protest! ha! i'm kidding. i'm not "one of them." i just thought it would be funny to see you on the news :p but seriously sorry they're wrecking your "playground"

I know how you feel. Some developers drained and filled in a large wooded wetland (yuppie for swamp) nearby. They paved the roads and leveled the lots. They put a gate at the entrance. Then the housing market went bust. Not a soul lives there, but all the displaced raccoons, oppossums, squirrels, rabbits, and amadillos seem to have found my yard. Good luck with your woods.

How come that place looks so familiar.... which WMA is that john? How much have they cleared?

That sucks. The place my GF just moved used to be an amazing area with ponds and lots of animals...now its just concrete...depressing.

I didn't mean to come off like a hippy tree hugger, but there is so much history associated with those woods.

They were once owned by my brother in law's family. They were captured by the Union during the War between the States, and they still provide for the people of Yorkville, GA.

I know that there will be progress, I just don't like keeping up anymore.

There is nothing wrong with loving the woods and hating to see them destroyed. Seems reasonable to me.

I hate it when I see it.

*sigh* Never an eco-terrorist when you need one. Though, it looks like somebody's already made off with one of the wheels from that tractor.

Hope your woods make it through.

Just because that part of the woods means something to you does NOT make you a crazy hippie tree hugger. It is unfortunate to see what's happening there. I hope it is like you said, just a clearing for a road. Those were nice pics. Thanks for sharing.

John,
Follow these few basic redneck instructions to save your forest, have some fun, and be the cool guy,

1) select 25 of the hottest chicks, naked, from the internet. Boats is the best guide I can think of to enlist help from.

2) Have Mrs Shottgunner grade the list from 1-10. 10 being the best looking (think Boats posting material), and 1 being the worst (think about Mrs S's favorite fat dude in the bra or Crowdog's gay pictures). Throw out all of the ones that are 3 and higher except the 10's which I will explain.

3) Make INP's or Improvised Nudity Posters and place them where the workers will be the following day. These posters will distract all but the gay workers and the supervisors. You can take care of the gay workers with the 10's from Mrs S's list. The supervisors havent touched a shovel or backhoe in ages. I mean really, how many supervisors do you see watching others work on a free way?

Within 2 weeks I think you'll have your results.
Good luck!
I in no way assume any lawyer fees or court fines you will likely be imposed due to the advise or lack therof posted above...

James Dickey was a great author and he wrote the screenplay adaptation of his book, "Deliverance." In the very beginning of that movie, while the visions of "progress" are being flashed on the screen, the actors are going through the script and speaking about "progress." Burt Reynold's character, Lewis Medlock, is complaining about how "progress" is about ready to destroy a beautiful river to make a "dead lake" for "more air conditioning in Atlanta suburbs."

Or, you can see an accurate transcription here - http://www.script-o-rama.com/movie_scripts/d/deliverance-script-transcript.html

It's interesting to note that the word "extremist" in politics, I thought that cropped up during the Clinton Administration, but it has been around for decades, to demonize people and get them to try to shut their mouth because they want to preserve something...you know, like the Second Amendment.

I know exactly how you feel.
About 10 yrs ago they logged out 90 percent of the trees from the forest behind where I grew up. That woods was like a playground to me growing up, there were unusual rock formations, fungi, trees that people had their initials carved in dating back to the 1960's, shade and deer trails.

Now its an impenetrable mass of weeds and jagger bushes 7 feet high.

:(

I'm in the middle of reading "Patriots, how to survive the coming collapse".

They give a pretty good explaination of how to make thermite bombs that can burn through an engine block.......

Just sayin'.....

Thanks for all your comment everyone. I had to put my coffee down there for a minute.:D

I posted these pics a while back. These were taken of an area just East of the road they are cutting in. Due to a lack of time after my hike the other day, I wasn't able to follow the road to its end. I hope that they don't destroy these cliffs and the Goldmine. I'll go back in a week or so and see what is going on.

Funny how conservation laws work. If I fill in a low spot (a goddam mosquito larvae incubating mud puddle resulting from settled topsoil) in my suburban yard, I am destroying a wetland area, yet they can clearcut areas like John's beloved woods to make room for more pot smoking, tree hugging yuppies and it's okay. WTF?
