In awe of the (mighty lak' a) Cherokee Rose

I received one of Yvsa's Cherokee Rose Bowies in a trade recently. Made by Sanu. Convex ground with loving care by Yvsa himself.
I must say I am truly stunned by the simple beauty of this blade. And its sheer enormity. It is 19.5" long overall, with a 12" blade. The blade balances 2" in front of the guard, but is still very quick for snap cuts, thanks to its design. The handle curves like a chopper, if you hold it behind the palm swell, but has the balance of a fighter if you hold it close to the guard. Both positions are comfortable. For a 1lb 12oz. blade, that is quite impressive.
The blade has a lot of belly and a sharp point that Bill Bagwell would approve of. The clip is convex ground and sharp as the dickens.
Sorry, it is too dark to take good photos, but I promise I'll have some for tomorrow.
It is an honor to own this blade, and I will share her beauty with you fellow Cantina members, as my duty in possessing her. :)

The YCS is definitely my preferred khuk design, and I hope the production difficulties get worked out some day so we see alot more. I'm still hoping for a steel-mounted horn-handled one. I have a chiruwa-handled YCS that I think has still better balance the the regular one. Add the beauty of all those fullers, nice decorations, and the nice big kardas, and the YCS package is a real winner.

Someday I'll take good-enough pictures to do it justice :D

Yvsa put a lot of thought and heart into that design, particularly the handle and it shows. I keep mine next to my bed at night. It handles like a knife half it's size doesn't it? And that handle is comfortable no matter where you grab it.

See, now you're just confusing me by editing your post :D

(I still think the YCS is better) :)

Methinks they like my design's. What greater words could a man ask for?!?!?!?!?:D

The handle on the Rose is what took me so long to finish. This was about the fourth attempt and I finally achieved what I was hoping for.:D

In this case a full or chiruwa tang may have made the balance better, but I just couldn't bring myself to do that!!!! :p :D

Okay as promised here are some photos. Not too great, but they show some of what I'm talking about... the handle on this one is beautiful, Yvsa. I have a close-up...

Thomas all of the HI kukri's and other knive's used to come with the rosewood handles.:(
You mentioned possibly having another sheath made. WOuld the sarkis have followed the pattern I sent exactly there wouldn't have been need for another sheath. I designed the scabbard with straight parallel sides with the bottom following the outline of the knife, the belly and the clip.
That way all anyone would've had to do to change it from right to left would be to remove the frog and slide it on the other side.
Dayumed Sarkis anyway, they're as bad as the kamis!!!!:grumpy:  :(

However a 11-12 ounce leather, beautifully rendered in an Oak Leaf or Traditional Amaranthus pattern, in natural color with a dark brown dyed background would be very fitting for such a Bowie ainnit?:D ;) :D
Oh, and with no strap and snap. That wasn't my choice, but I did put one on the original model, but it was placed in such a way as to be at least halfway outta the way.
I intensely dislike straps and snaps!!!!:grumpy:

Minus the snap, the sheath is very functional! Needs to be a little tighter is all. I think this one is going to Kenny Rowe, if I can bear to part with her for a few weeks! I have a corny streak, I'm gonna ask for a rose and vine pattern on dark natural leather to match the handle. A Rose deserves a rose. :)
Something like this, with different colors:

Yeah!!!! Now that's a classic Amaranthus pattern!!!!:D :D :D :D
Kenny does nice work!!!! Me? I have to practice a while to get back into the groove and then hope I can complete a project before the carpal tunnel kicks in. :grumpy:
I love the tooling, but detest the laceing part of the job, one nice thing about the sheaths are the best made ones are double needle sewn.:D

You've got a nice pair of convexed knives, now...

How about a lil' side by side comparison?

I'm very interested in the results of the Cherokee Rose and the AK Bowie in terms of chopping, overall feel, rope cutting, pushcuts, etc.

I am still green with envy and mad as @%#@$ to see Yvsa giving away some of his "best of the best". I nearly had a heart attack when I saw him post a falcata in his trade list.

Yvsa - got any other fancy stuff you wanna unload? I'm not good for the cash right now, but I got stuff to trade, perhaps...:D

Dan, I was really wanting a decent FF that I didn't have to work on unless "I" wanted too.
I got one, but not saying how, just that there are still some great people left in this world!!!!:D

As to trading, whatcha got.;) We can do it by e-mail, but any trades will have to wait until next month. I've already overspent our budget for postage this month.
Trouble is it's gotta be something that really digs my ditch because of the kukri collection plus I've managed to put together.
And there's some knives that will hopefully never be listed such as my Raker Hunter by Ray Kirk or the very similar one out of 1084 made by Ronnie Foster.:D
You gotta know I was serious about wanting a decent FF because I listed my own very well thought of 18" AK with the two handmade karda's I made for it, even if one of them was a Red River blade by Cold Steel.:p

My AK Bowie is with Terry getting some new duds. When it gets back, I'll see about a comparison. I have a feeling the AK Bowie will win the cutting contest, but the Rose wins the beauty contest, and the knife fight contest. :)
I'm hoping to have enough cash next month to get a sheath made for the Rose, as well.

As for Yvsa's falcata... it was a hard decision, the Rose or the Falcata... I've wanted one for so long. As nice as the falcata is, I know I made the right choice. This Rose is too beautiful to pass up. And I'll definitely use her!

After I was done having my heart attack, this is what gave me respiratory failure...

Yvsa, I would pay postage both ways on one of your handmade/mod beauties!
