K so I went through every post on the original thread which took two days and gave me a migraine, I mean that in the best possible way :). Spent sometime on the manufacturers website and knife review section of this forum.

God it was hilarious walking into the tiny cutlery store and just rattling off the names of everything I wanted to see. There were a couple of guys in there just staring, they probably thought I was crazy...Anyways I was mainly looking for how stuff would fit in the pockets of my tightest jeans and how it fit in my hand. Went in to look at the delica, plus a mini pika, griptillian and for my keychain a ladybug (thats the tiniest knife I've ever seen, its adorable). The didn't have the Benchmade 530 which I was sad about since everyone said it's really thin.

And the final result is...none of the above . After I saw this knife and then went back home and read all the rave reviews here. I placed an order for a plain edge Caly3. Love the way it looks, the wire clip makes it really unobtrusive, plus the handles a little shorter so it fits my hand better than the delica. It's at the top of my budget but I think it's worth it, hell my jeans cost more and I'm sure I'll have this folder for a long time.

So in conclusion I have the Caly3 and pepper spray from Foxlabs arriving in a few days. This forum was insanely helpful especially when I combined the info I got on my thread with the knife reviews. Seriously to everyone that posted on that monstrosity of a thread, Thank You.

looks like a good choice.

i wonder how many responses this thread will get.
good luck with your choices and welcome to the sickness!!!!

I'm glad you came to your own decision on it :) I think it will mean more to you this way.

You sure picked a good one. The Calypso folders have a fanbase all their own here. One of the best slicers around.

Good...you got what you wanted. And although it's hard to imagine, if it turms out it the caly3 is not what you want/need you can always sell/trade it on the forums and begin again. The fun never stops....

-regards

Something for us men to remember. We typically don't think of really, really tight clothes when deciding on a knife. Perhaps when we are giving a reccomendation to a woman that should be brought up.

Now, how to do it without being thought of as a dirty old man. :')

It was an excellent choice BTW. I love that knife. It's an instant classic.

Excellent choice. And it was probably a more thoughtful and deliberate choice because of the ton of information your were armed with after that other 'little' thread. That's what's so great about this place - it's like an independent testing lab for knives. :D

It depends on how she wants to carry it. Some of the knives I liked, the mini griptillian and the native for example were really nice. If I wanted a folder to carry in my purse or in a backpack for then those knives would have been perfect. In the summer when I start camping a lot more I might buy a native. However, there was no way I could carry one of those on me and not have it be noticed they were just too bulky.

I'm glad everybody seems to like the choice I made. And this site is like a testing lab for knives. I can't believe how scientifc and technical some of the reviews are.

my wife occasionally "carries" the Griptillian, with blue scales...I say "carries" because mostly in her purse.

I'd love a Caly3 at some point. I love Spyderco.

 Outstanding, I would have loved to see the scramble and confusion in that shop. I take a perverse amount of pleasure letting my wife do the "shopping" in a new knife or gunshop. Most are manned by young men of questionable knowledge :foot: and they have a hell of a time keeping up with her. She also tends not to cut them any slack. Well I say good for you, Now comes the real work. Practice, Practice, Practice, then practice more because someday your life may depend on it. Good Luck Bigk6

its funny, usually i scoff at ppl who complain about the visibility of their knives in their pockets.

most people are so unobservant they wouldn't notice stuff like that.

but now that i think of it... its much different for women...in a college town...especially with a nice pair of jeans :D

my head was on a frickin swivel at OSU:p

HA, trust me it will be noticed if the right person is looking. I notice people carrying knives all the time. Though Ive never seen a girl carry, that would be something to see. LOL

I'm glad you found the right knife. Fixed blades are preference, but pocket folders are entirely personal. We could only throw out suggestions to get you thinking. Pretty much as long as it's Japanese or American (sometimes German) you'll have a quality blade.

Congratulations.

You gave good reasons for your choice. It is very personal. And it gives you breathing room :D before you discover Sebenzas, Striders, or Hinderers.

Oh, right, I forgot about the William Henry! You're DOOMED! The addiction has already started! You bought the first knife! Be warned you will never look at a another knife with the same eyes now. Watches, flashlights, and BOB's come next.

Uhh, you already carry a bug out bag. This change in perspective is starting to give me a migraine . . .

Excellent choice on the Caly 3!!! I think the only reason why it didn't come up as a suggestion, was because everybody (including me) was focussing on SD. I think the Caly 3 is a much better knife than the Delica.

hell my jeans cost more...
   ...girls... ...:D

its cuz your a knife knut. of course youll notice a knife on another person.
its the 'wink wink, nudge nudge' of the cutleratti :p

its just like i always recognize another guitar player when i see the calluses on their fingers.

i've seen a few.:) it really stops your heart a couple beats:rolleyes:
"please marry me!" is usually on the tip of my tounge...:o :o :jerkit:

   ...girls... ...:D

Hey do not insult the jeans. I went a month eating nothing but PB&J to afford these pants. God I just realized how sad that sounds as I typed it out. Ah well seven jeans are worth it, ask any girl

Yeah rockclimbers have callouses on every finger segment, and most tennis players have a really large one on the base of their thumbs from serving. It's weird the ways you can tell things about people.
