You can't assume everyone has heard, so I'll bring it up here. One of the greatest survival/bushcraft instructors ever died in his sleep last night. Heard it from Dave Canterbury on his FB page.

R.I.P. Ron!!

This is the first time I hear that name, but anyways: Farewell, brother. It's only the beginning of something far greater. I know you can hear me right now, you will be missed.

man! i saw him at Blade too, he seemed to be doing quite well. dammit.

safe journey Ron!

I saw Ron a couple of weeks ago. Had a nice, long conversation with him. It blows the mind.

Ron's had Cancer, and had been fighting it. From what I could tell, he looked better than he did 6 months ago. At SHOT, he looked like a cancer patient. Thin, gaunt, pale skin. At Blade, he had put some weight back on, color was good, and he was runnin' around and partying hardy.

Ron is an icon in the survival industry. He was a good man, with a slew of skills, I could only dream of having.

He is missed.

Smoke and Prayers to Ron's Family.

This is just such sad news, I thought he looked great on photos at Blade 2011. RIP Ron. May God's peace and love surrounds Karen and Jesse during this time.

The survival community has lost a friend and mentor, but our loss pale's to that of his family! Prayers up for the Hood's!!

Yep, it's a surprise alright. I was bummin' earlier, but death smiles on us all and talk about a dude that has made an impact on bushcrafting. Hell of a legacy I think.
Seriously though go to Hoods Woods and read some of his stuff. He is one of the funniest dudes I've read. I'm gonna miss his writings.

Adam from Equip2Endure has an interview of Ron up from Blade. Fare thee well Ron and Godspeed.
