I just obtained a 2nd Case Canoe slipjoint (brand new, Kentucky Green scales). It is, literally, shaving sharp out of the box (my forearm is now colder :D ). Fit and finish is great, and I have other lockbacks to compare it to (Spyderco, Buck, etc.). Pretty knife, too!

Certainly there are those on these forums who have had bad experiences with Case in recent years, but for whatever reason (luck, Case doing a better job, hopefully), I haven't seen it. My Seahorse Whittler (my first Case, bought about 18 mos ago) was the same way.

Anyone else seeing an improvement in Case?

I am not familiar with Case knives but I would really like to find out the quality of the Case Tony Bose knives? Especially the Dog leg one.

Thanks, Steve

i have bought quite a few case knives in the recent past (within 5 months) and they are all beautiful!

i have been concentrating on the "Limited Edition" series from this year and past years (i think back to 1998???). most of this series MAY be produced to higher standards than normal because of their limited production (2500-3000 per release), compared to those standard case knives sold almost anywhere... i.e. lowes, home depot, sears.

i have snagging all of mine from ebay. lot of older ones out there, but they are selling them a pretty good prices. i am hoping that they will increase in value later on... but no telling :)

thanks,

I personally havent seen an improvement. Out of 12 I have bought in the (within) the last 6 months only 4 of them had good "F & F".

Case's often look good, but I can't justify buying any more until they start using better steel. That stainless they're using now is just pathetic. :barf: I'm not comparing to to something high end like S30V either, I'd just much rather have a nice hard carbon steel like Old Timer used. :( Another sad story. *sigh*

Recently four yellow handled CASE knives with CV blades have moved into my home. They are all put together well and the CV blades make ok users. I am happy with them. Their stainless blades are really sad.

yes, it'd be nice to see them in carbon steel, but their Chrome-Vanadium steel is awesome. check it out.
peace.

I use to use a yellow case trapper in CV. It worked well, was easy to sharpen. It was not as good as the "good ole" schrade carbon steel, but very adequate. Recently this last summer I bought the amber bone case trapper in CV. Its a nice change from the old yellow trapper. When I had bought that yellow trapper years ago the only available handle material was the yellow synthetic. It served its purpose well in being hard to loose (was a great squirrel knife), but it would have been nicer to have more options then.
