In God "I" Trust -- custom engraving?

This is a BNIB Stars and Stripes from 2003 that I recently picked up. Instead of In God "We" Trust, it reads In God "I" Trust. I did some googling and have not found another CRK that has the "I" on the engraving. Kind of neat actually.

Could this have been custom engraving? Even the original invoice from CRK shows the "I".

Send an email to Chris Reeve Knives. They have good record of Sebenzas and engravings to my knowledge.

Beautiful Large Regular Sebenza, I have one just like it, though its plain of course. One of my favorite CGG Designs.

If you have an invoice from CRK, then its a good chance they did it. It looks like their work as I have had custom engraving done by them. I was always told they can only do ONE line of engraving on the back, because of the limited space. But it looks from this one, they were able to fit two lines on just fine.

CRK's engraving is not just letters scratched deeply into the TI like your used to seeing at the places at the mall and such. They actually use a computerized millinging machine that has a carbide or cobalt tip that spins like a drill and moves back and forth in the smallest movements to form the letters or designs. Almost like a wood router.........I worked at my uncle's business when I was younger for 11 years and we did computerized engraving. Most of it was just scribing the letters into aluminum or brass plates for awards and such, but we had attachments that would allow us to do how CRK does it, but it was just not economical for us from a $$ standpoint as it took forever. I have spoken to Heather about their engraving and what can and cant be done quite extensively. It was a nice learning process for us both that has served us quite well over the years.

When you get words or designs done by CRK, that design becomes yours. If someone else wants it, CRK has to asks your permission to use it. I still get emails from Heather from time to time telling me someone wants my NCIS engraving on a sebenza and that she needs my permission to do so. I have never or would never deny a request, i think its nice that someone likes mine enough that they would want one like it also.........And with that, you can see as " marthinus " stated, that they have knowledge and records of all engravings and custom work that leaves their shop.

Ironically, I EDC a Large Regular Sebenza with CGG engraving thats says " In God We Trust ".

Thanks for the additional info. What is CGG? The engraving was definitely done by CRK as it was clearly stated on the invoice. I just wasn't sure if it was custom or standard engraving, but it sounds like custom.

I have come accrosed your NCIS when researching my engraving and it looks awesome.

Thanks for the offers guys, but I plan never to sell this one. Unless you have a River of Fire Large Sebenza, haha!!!

CGG = Computer generated graphic. CRK's did a range of these.

CGG is Computer Generated Graphics. This is what your Stars and Stipes is. They have a program that lets them make multiples. They put lots out there to buy. They discontinue the graphics after awhile and bring out new ones. Some of the newer ones consist of sea grass, eyes and enigma. Older CGG would be like the stars and stripes, native american, vines, meteor shower, etc.

UG is Unique Graphics. These are designs that Lisa makes herself. Some are one of a kind, while others like the Night Sky graphic she has made several. But they are done individually by hand. So even though they are the same, they will never be exactly the same because of being hand ground on the milling machine. Lisa is amazing and some of her designs are breathtaking...........A design you come up with and have them do, would fall into this catagory.

I want to get in line if you decide to get rid of this one. It'd be in my pocket if I deploy again.

I own one sebenza already, a large 21. I will one day (probably after college) get one from CRK (probably a 25, but IDK) with a custom designed engraving by me. I now know one of the things that will an integral part in my design. Thanks for posting pictures of the engraving.

and nyefmaker, I love the NCIS engraving that you have. I didn't know that CRK asked your permission to use it. If you don't mind me asking, how often do they contact you asking for permission to copy the engraving?

I came up with the design and asked Heather at CRK if they could do it. Heather and I worked awhile on it seeing what could be done and not done to an existing sebenza, so it was a learning experience for us both. Since I came up with the design and they did it, the design becomes mine and if anyone wants to use it, they email me and ask. I would say that aprox. 4 others have requested permission to use the engraving. I know its on a couple of 21's and Insingo's. Dont know if its on any other regulars or not.
