Some of you may or may not be familiar with Mickey Newbury. He was the foremost songwriter in Nashville in the late 60s and 70s. In the song, "Lukenbach, Texas", he was the one referred to in the line, "Newbury Train Songs". He was also the one to arrange the song "American Trilogy" (Dixie, Battle Hymn and All My Trials) that Elvis closed his shows with. Over 500 of his songs have been covered by other artists.

Like any other RR spike knife, it is more of a novelty than a working knife.
This knife was forged from a railroad spike from Guthrie, Kentucky, the setting of one of his many train songs entitled, "Cortelia Clark" and was a collaborative effort of two different makers.
The brass plate is inscribed with a line from that song, "A blind old man and I we came to Guthrie just to see the train. He was black and I was green."
It was made exclusively for the 2004 Gathering of Mickey Newbury's family and friends in Austin, Texas and will be auctioned.
