In Ivan's Path- which Khuks to take?

We have to evacuate our Gulf Coast home due to the fact we are going to take a direct hit. I've been thru a cat 5 storm- Andrew in 1994- and I know the severe damage we're going to take. So this is my last post for some time. We're looking at 3 weeks with no power, IF our house is habitable- which it won't be, it's too close to the bay.

I've enjoyed my time in the cantina. Thanks to all who I've learned from, and especially for all the humor.

So, just for a laugh, what do you think: 20" AK for limbing, Malla for self defense? There will be plenty of trees down. I just can't bring 'em all, the Malla's wood is just too pretty to see lost, should the house go in the bay.

Travelling also in good company with Benelli & Sig-Sauer products.

Adios and thanks for the learning/laughs. Hope to make it back to the Cantina someday. Not asking for prayers/smoke. Save that for those with real need. This is just karma. Things are just things. We're not going... home, today.

Luck Man, Tally once again looks like its gonna just get brushed. Sounds like you are well equipped to repelbordersand deal with other potential issues.

Get a plastic bucket and bury the good stuff. You can dig it up after the storm.

In the end, it's only stuff.

Take care of yourself.

Best of luck to ya, AA. Bruise is right. In the end its all only stuff. We'll look forward to your safe return to the cantina.

forget the family possessions take them all!!

Best of luck to you and your loved ones

sad news about the evacuation. Hope all goes well.

Gotta admit, though, I would love to be on the clean-up committee......"Oh look.....another tree down.....oh well, guess we'll have to cut 'er up!"

:D

Godspeed, Astra. My Aunt lost her home in Melbourne to hurricane Frances and another Aunt in the panhandle is evacuating to Atlanta today. I hope you make it out and back again safely.

Now about those khuks... I recommend you Fed-Ex all of them to me right now. I'm a pretty careful guy and probably won't "lose" too many. ;)

Actually, you can buy a can of 'Naval Jelly' brand rust inhibitor, like the old Cosmoline, or just use petroleum jelly to coat them real well. Then wrap them in plastic bags, put them in an old suitcase or trunk and leave them in the house.

They'll make it and you will too.

Good luck my friend and keep your and your family's hinnies covered no matter what.

storms typically weaken over the gulf...IIRC....which is why the one that hit Galveston was so terribly underestimated. let's hope Ivan calms down....

Ad Astra,

You can always drop off what you can't carry at my place. I'll have a cold one waiting for you on your return. :)

I had to buy a generator for the last two hurricanes. I power mine and two of the neighbor houses. If you have a long extension cord, I'll power your house too.

;)

Sounds like we all need to keep a 55-gal drum of olive oil or ballistol... when a hurricane threatens, just dump all the khuks in. Protection from rust and the handles come out beautiful!

I'm still worried about my kids in Jacksonville along with everyone else.
The ones I really feel for though are those who are elderly, sick, and have a hard time getting around, as well as the poor who can't afford all of this.

I have a cousin who has put a contract on a house near Tampa I think it is. I hope it's still there when he gets ready to move.

Could you cache them underground or somewhere like Bruise suggested?

Maybe im crazy, but that seems like a good idea, unless you get flooded.

Shove em in a rubbermaid box, oil the khuks, stick some of those delicious little packets that come with a new pair of shoes in ;) , close her up and place somewhere where there is the least chance of washouts.

Survivalist types are always caching rifles in the woods in pieces of PVC pipe, right? With a bonded plastic pipe, NOTHIN' is getting in until you come around with a hacksaw. And it'll float. Maybe put a cable around it and secure it to something permanent, and bury it.

Now im just getting carried away... :)

Besides, you probally only have time to run like hell now.

Good luck friend.

Brian
