best wishes to all, and to all who have lost a loved one in defense of this great country, condolences also - may they all RIP...
on memorial day i always think of my grandfathers best friend and buddy and partner (they were forward observers) in italy in WW2 - a Russian immigrant fleeing comunism, who immigrated to the US,who taught himself english, who came from an aristocratic family who lost all in the revolution, who joined the Army 1 day after Pearl Harbor, though he was 34 years old, who left my grandfather with a life long hatred of communism ( thank the lord he saw the berlin wall fall)My Grandfather asked that I never forget him, as they had been through much together (North Africa,Sicily,Salerno,Rome,Monte Cassino)and his parents and family were killed in the Russian revolution, so no one in the world would remember him, except my Grandfather, who promised him to never let his memory die, who proomised to make his children promise to pass down this story to there children, and so on- Sgt. Constantine Maserkovich, US Army, 88th Infantry Division,339th FAB, killed in action by sniper fire near Monte Cassino, Italy - May He Rest In Peace, along with so many others....
