Everyone,

Every year we remember Dick Singer, a BladeForums member and HI enthusiast, who gave so much to this forum. Dick walked west on December 7, 2006, so it's now 5 years since his passing, which is hard to believe. Dick knew his time was short, so generously donated a bunch of his knives to both fund raising efforts for Sgt. Khadka's son Ram to attend medical school, and to individual members of the forum.

He asked me to send off his knives from time to time to new forumites, and I sent more than a dozen of his out to various members over a two year period after he passed. Some of those members are still here, and some are long gone, but his memory remains.

Dick loved knives; the guy was a walking treasure trove of knowledge about them, and like all of us he saw something really unique in HI's offerings, and the spirit of the Cantina.

Dick also loved animals, and asked that anyone who wished to remember him make a donation to Best Friends Animal Society. Just $25 will get you the magazine, and you can also post a memorial thought for Dick if you like, for free.

Dick's ashes were scattered up at Angel's Rest in Utah, where his beloved animals also rest. He donated all his vehicles and other possessions to a Veteran's organization. Dick never bragged, but took pride in his service in Vietnam, hence his username.

Here's a pic of Dick we publish every year, outside his Idaho home.

RIP Dick.

P.S. Dick and Joe (Aardvark) and I also went in together on the "3 Sisters" knives from Petr Dohnal in the Czech Republic, in 2006. Forumite Ryan Roundy was a close friend of Dick's and has his now.

Here's a pic that always makes me think of Dick, as he was so excited to get his hands on the finished product, which took 5 months to complete. (We were worried they might not be completed in time for him, and they arrived just 3 months or so before he had to go.) Each knife has unique markings to show that it is 1 of 3.

Best,

Norm
