Okay I would like to find a bladesmith so he can forge me a fixed blade 8 or 10 inches, 2" wide and 3/8" thick, It would be used as a chopper. I live in Puerto Rico where it's highly humid so it has to be a some what rust resistant steel but I am inclined to something on the tougher side something that I can use to baton wood to. Help me out here.

3/8" is very thick for that blade. 1/4" would be much better. Does it have to be forged ? CPM 3V has good rust resistance , very tough ,with good wear resistance too.

I'd prefer it be forge just because I want the blade to have that unfinished look, don't want a polish or satin look. Can 1/4" look as imposing as a 3/8" thick blade? My guess is that 3/8" will make the knife look like it's on steroids, and at the same time make it heavier so it takes less swings to chop through wood.
