Im a nursing student, I start my first clinicals towards the end of June. I need a watch and I know there are people here who can point me in the right direction.

I need a second hand and I need it to be easy to read, but it cant be huge because I have small wrists. Glow in the dark would be nice, but not really needed. I used to wear cheap wallyworld watches, Id like to upgrade. Something in the $50-$60 range. Leather or rubber sports type band. I need something that can take a beating, Ive been a little rough on my past watches.

Ok I know that is a lot of stipulations, but thats what makes it a challenge for you watch gurus. Thanks in advance.

Watchzone http://www.watchzone.com/cgi-bin/watchzone.storefront?AID=8064671&PID=412661 has a pretty good selection of watches.

Timex is normally thought of a cheap watch. Their quality may have gotten better in the last few years, but I don't know as I don't own any. Within the price range you specify Pulsar might work. Casio is better known for their digital watches, especially for their G Shock line, but they also make some analog watches too.

Google: casio watch forum, follow the links. Some of the stuff they do to G-shock watches is amazing. They freeze, boil, throw them off of buildings, run over them. Nice pictures and a lot of info, kinda like here.

try Dakota watches. They have the traditonal wrist watches and ones that you clip on.http://www.buydakotawatches.com/

Casio watches are very good. I had one for 22+ years. I spent more on bands and batteries than I paid for the watch. I replaced it with a Dakota because it would randomly loose 5-10 minutes.

How about this one?

That green Seiko titanium above is a great watch! However, it's well over your price range and the second hand isn't really a second hand, it's a 1/5th second hand only used with the chronograph.

I would suggest one of the Timex Perpetual Calendars. You'll never have to change the date at the end of the month and it has Indiglo. You should be able to find one at a local department store in your price range. Maybe get a metal band so you can sterilize it if you get body fluids on it.

Ok the military ti one is just too much, but it is cool. And the second hand is key for taking blood pressures, heart rates and resperations. There is a kiosk or somesuch at the local mall that sells Dakota watches. Ill have to go to the mall and take a look around that the stores and that little kiosk. Thanks for all the help so far guys. Up next, stethoscopes.

I was a wallyworld watch buyer too until I got my G-shock. Can't say enuf about it. Mine is a ana/digi combo and there is no second hand. Just a digi seconds window. I work in the health field too and it took some time to get used to the digi part of it after years of watches with second hands, but it works well for me now. As for stethoscopes... Littman has worked the best for me. Not much of a fan for the Sprague-Rappaports(too flimsy for me).

Thanks dingo. Im in school at UPMC Shadyside school of nursing. Stethoscopes can be fricking expensive. I have read really good stuff about the Littmans though.

I second the vote for the Littmann's. I finally broke down and bought a Littmann Lightweight II S.E after 5 years as an EMT. I don't know if it is good enough for the evaluations you need to do but its great for EMT evaluations. I had a cheap $13 stetho that I used all the time and worked pretty good. I also had a more expensive Sprague Rappaport that I thought was useless. The Littmann is more expensive than both but it is really worth it.

Of course now I live in fear that I will loose it at a scene.

I saw a neat holster you can put on your belt or pants that you can strap your scope into. Sure it wont help you not lose it, but it seemed kinda cool.

Good luck with school. If you wait around for the fire/police/ems expo you can find a Littman for a good price. I got the cheaper of the Littmans for about $10.00 cheaper then the stores.
