Hello, I'm new to this forum so please excuse my ignorance. I just bought my first BM, a mini grip 555. Does anyone carry that knife down in the pocket without a clip or is that a bad idea? I was wondering how the knife would hold up riding with keys, change, etc. thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I carry mine all the time loose in my pocket with whatever else is in there. I never use the clip on such a small knife (and have taken it off). No worries about it getting damaged/scuffed, the synthetic handles are tough.

I use a pocket clip or coin pocket. I don't like knives, pens, or anything getting sideways at the base of my pockets. It's a pet peeve I guess. As far as holding up, should A-OK as far as I can tell. The handle covers are pretty tough and the blade finish is as well.

This. Small knives usually float in my pocket, often with larger knife clipped on board.

+1 I always wear mine clipped into the watch pocket of my blue jeans. I've been doing it that way for years, and started the practice with my 705 I carried for years. It fits perfect and I've never had one come out

No clip.
Carried in watch pocket.
No issues at all

I leave the clips on but I don't use them very often. My RFP is a dedicated knife pocket... always has been. Nothing goes in there but my pocket knife and it drops to the bottom and rides there until I need it. The mini-G is a great EDC choice for carrying in a front pocket.

I like to use the clip as I find less lint and dirt will build up in the pivot. Although I do manual labor work and bend or crouch a lot.

Yes, I do. I'm an old man and never really warmed up to pocket clips. I've had clipped knives fall out of my pocket a few times. Also clips might attract unwanted attention.

I always use the clip, one reason is as RevDevil mentioned so that it doesn't turn sideways at the bottom of the pocket. Also, when it's clipped at the corner of my pocket I know exactly where it is and it's easy to get to, don't have to rummage for it.

It'll hold up just fine! I hope you don't mind a little scratching on the blade (well, if it's coated).
If you want, get a hold of a clip from a benchmade Adamas or 810, and it'll be 'deep carry'. Basically, the clip loops around, so only the clip is visible, not the butt end of the knife.

I have a mini grip with custom scales with no scales that rides in my right front pocket with my keys. No problems whatsoever.

It will be just fine in your pocket. I carried one for a number of years, mostly with the clip but sometimes just dropped in a pocket. It is about the largest and heaviest knife that I can easily carry in my pocket, anything larger interferes with other stuff that I carry and anything heavier feels like a brick in the pocket. But with a pocket clip I can carry a much larger and/or heavier knife clipped to my pocket.

Made this one extra thin for a more friendly pocket carry...

ALways going a step above.

The Mini-Grip is one of my favorites.
But thickness was not an issues till you posted
your scales.

Now Im going to have to do it.
