Today my family and I went to the range. We shot 4 different 22’s, a 357 Marlin Lever Action Rifle and a SKS.

I had not been shooting for a while and forgot just how great of a rifle the CZ 452 Training Rifle is. The size, weight and trigger pull is just right and the factory trigger is outstanding. Even with 50 year old eyes, it is a tack driver.

The SKS is probably too heavy to tot about the woods on a long haul, but it is an out standing rifle for the $129 I paid for it.

The problem I have is deciding which of these I like best for my BOB. It’s a good problem to have.

Who else likes these rifles?

SKS was my first firearm, and it was a good deal for $100 new. Not a tack driver, but fun to shoot. Still have it, too.

Nowadays they want $300 or more. . . Can't say I would pay that.

I have nearly the same CZ .22 and it is incredible. With the iron sights and at 70-80 yards, I can put a bullet through a 20oz soda bottle every time. It's the best bolt-action .22 I have ever had the pleasure of firing. My only complaint is that if you want to put a scope on it, the rings are around $60 because of the obscure size of the dovetail. I personally wouldn't care too much about scoping a .22 for a bug-out kit anyway so there you have it. Because it's so light and the ammo takes up so little space, I think it's the perfect rifle for traipsing about in the woods and can easily snag you a squirrel, rabbit, turkey dinner if you had to.

Another CZ Trainer lover- my favorite long gun, actually. How was that Marlin? I've been really fighting the urge to get one- should I give in?

+1 on the CZ 452 Trainer. It was my first rifle and I still shoot it the most. The tangent sights are simply outstanding.

Hey MFV,

The Marlin is an outstanding rifle. I put a Skinner peep site on it and it really is a rifle that almost does it all. The 357's will take down large game and the 38's are real medium game killers.

It is also an adequate defense rifle. The only gap it does not fill is real small game hunting for food and long term you can not carry enough ammunition because of the weight. But for getting from point "A" to point "B", it's a winner.
