Today, September 11th, 2023 marks the 22nd anniversary of the September 11th 2001 attacks. I'm sure the rest of you, like myself remember exactly where you were that day. I was at the VA Hospital in Poplar Bluff, Missouri performing a safety inspection. I stood disbelieving as I watched the event unfold on the television in the hospital lobby. People were panicking and rushing the gas stations. I had trouble finding enough gas to make it back to St. Louis.

The September 11 attacks, commonly known as 9/11, were four coordinated suicide terrorist attacks carried out by the militant Islamic extremist network al-Qaeda against the United States. On the morning of Tuesday, September 11, 2001, nineteen terrorists—directed by al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden—hijacked four commercial airliners mid-flight while traveling from the northeastern US. September 11th is officially designated as Patriot Day, a national day of mourning in rememberance of those killed in the attacks. The flag is flown at half mast on all US government buildings worldwide. It is not an official Federal Holiday as government offices, schools, and businesses remain open.

Buck issued a commemorative knife for the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) It can be found on the 2002 Special Projects list as 110SP41. Cherry handle with a laser etched image and an American flag cutout on the blade. A faux marble display box with a colored lid etching makes it a special offering. The number issued is listed as 1,257. There is a second Special Projects listing the following year, 2003. 110SP49. I believe it to be the same knife, issued with a sheath instead of the display box. No quantity is listed

I’ll never forget that day. Where I was, what was going on prior to. Everything. My daughter is the same age right now that I was then (16) and she said only one teacher talked about 9/11 at school today. That really saddens and angers me. So when she got home and I got home from work we had a compressed 9/11 history lesson. I won’t let my children forget.

It was my first day as a “real” teacher. I was a little past my 24th birthday and started work as a special education teacher at Benito Middle School in Tampa. The first tower was hit while I was driving to work and I watched the rest as it unfolded on TV. Never forget

I was confined to bed due to a lower back injury (for years) and when I saw a news report on the small television next to my bed, it didn't seem real. Part of that was because of the magnitude of the tragedy and part because I'd become detached from normal life. It was dark days for me personally (exactly two months later my condition progressed to me losing feeling and being paralyzed from the waist down until after an emergency surgery) to the point where it didn't hit me like it would have otherwise. I am still averse to dwelling on it.

So many questions about that day are still unanswered..Including the Towers being sold right around the attack. But if anyone questions the 'Official' narrative they are deemed crazy and somehow unpatriotic. The only way such massive changes in our laws and freedoms, especially the 'Patriotic Act' could be passed was if we had Bush's own Pearl Harbor..
