As we've learned here, Cocobolo has been discontinued and new exiting wood inlays will appear at the scene, I thought a few pics showing the character of Cocobolo might be interesting.
Cocobolo is maybe one of the current/latest wood inlays which appears to show the largest variety of color tone and grain. Well. Maybe also Box Elder Burl has a similar variation, from light more yellow type of color to darker, almost orange type of color. Anyway. Lets stick with Cocobolo. Cocobolo ranges from darker color tone, like dark red wine, even with a touch of brown in it, to a brighter, more orange type color tone. I will show you 2 examples of both groups with my Mnandi and my large 21. The grain usually appears very dark, almost black I would say. What is also characteristic for Cocobolo is its open surface structure. You can see lots of little "fractures" and "gaps/dots" at the Cocobolo scales/inlays. I must say I will miss this particular wood a lot. But as said above. New wood will come and I am sure those will also have their fascinating sides coming along with them.
Here we go with my Mnandy, which is more the "dark red wine to brown" type of color tone.
