Over 15 years ago I found this Old Timer in a wet parking lot, in Aurora Ontario, Canada. As you can see by the engraving on the shield, someone named John Zink seems to be the right full owner of this old Schrade peanut. I've made a few attempts over the years to find him, first through the phone book, then later searching the web, but to no avail. I cleaned it up and sharpened it, and it has remained sitting on the edge of my desk cubby hole ever since, serving me well as a quick go-to. I don't know how old it is, or how long he had it for, but I've used it now for all these years for so many little tasks, it's taken on a whole new chapter of experience and character, as users do. Even though it's just an old Old Timer,(with a blade that sits too high when closed), I think it's obvious that it may hold sentimental value due to it's having been personalized. It recently occurred to me that although it'd be a long shot, I should put it to my fellow knife people here in the event, however unlikely, that we could get John Zink's Old Timer back to him.

Sooo, does anyone know a John Zink?

Thanks

Probably the best-known John Zink would be the owner of the Zink Ranch, near Tulsa, OK. The Zink Ranch was the site of the 1994 International Six Day Trials, one of the world's premier off-road motorcycle events. That's the only one that rings a bell with me, anyway.

Doing a little digging around, it looks like John Zink Co of Tulsa, Ok (now part of the big conglomerate that Pipeman linked to) used to do pocket knives as sales promotional items. Given that background, looks like you found one of those.
