I am 19 years old and i am just starting out in "The Real World" so truth be told, i dont have alot of money, so my budget is low for the most part.
But i am in search of a knife. Preferably horizontal carry, tough enough to withstand daily use and hold a decent edge. i would like to be able to carry it on the back of my belt. i would very much like it to be a fixed blade. 4'' long (hopefully). i want to be able to take this knife with me everywhere. i dont want it the scare the wary-of-knives people. i am open to suggestions.

If by 4" you mean total length then I suggest a BK-11 or BK-14 or an ESEE Izula. That should get you in the ballpark of that size for a great EDC. If you mean 4" blade length then the wary-of-knives people are going to trip regardless.

I have been browsing this site and i see the term "EDC" quite frequently and i am quite unclear on the terminology. Educate me?

I like the look of the bk-11 and the bk-14 blade style, but i cant get over the paracord handle and i dont believe i can modd my own or afford to have someone else do it. any more suggestions for scout carry?

The paracord does not come with it; that's just what people like to do when they want a thicker handle. I have a BK-11CSM(same thing just different steel) that I would never wrap in paracord and I love it. It really boils down to what you want to do with it. Are you hell bent on a fixed blade? If so, for the price, you can't beat the 11 or 14 or Izula. What is going to be the knifes primary use? That will get you more responses from people wiser than me.

Well honestly for a living i am a tire technician. and it helps (more often than not) that i cut old valve stems (soft rubber) off of rims so i can replace the stem. its what i do all day. at the moment i am using an Old Timer schrade fixed blade. but its vertical carry and i prefer horizontal so that it will be out of my way. and i love fixed blade because i like not having to open and close knives all the time.
