"In the Box" Knife.

Yeah, another "One knife only" thread. For me, I thought I would take my Satin Battle Rat from SRKW, to have buried with me, then I remembered I am being cremated, and the mortuaries tend to frown on smelting metal in their ovens, from what I understand. I will have to think of a way around that. But if I were going to be buried, that is my tool of choice to pass through with.
So, which one knife would you prefer to buried with, if any? A Leatherman, perhaps to fix the hinge on the pearly gates? a broadsword to fight off the hounds of Hades?
When my Father in Law passed on, he insisted he was buried with his favorite pen knife, I don't recall what make or model. I was just thinking aout him this morning and that memory prompted the question. Which one for the box? You can choose more, of course.

I know I'm supposed to pick one, but it would come down to either my Fallkniven A1 or F1 micarta. Of course, if I live as long as I hope to, this could change between know and then.

You are going to have to find a trusted loved one to slip your knife in after cremation.

My Vic explorer.

Symbolic; I like it.

I'd like to pass on all of my sentimental and favorite knives to friends and family as keepsakes, so I honestly don't know. Maybe my Case peanut that I got as an anniversary gift one time?

Maybe a saw, in case somebody made a mistake putting me in that casket!

I think I'm too young to consider this! :D

But in a way it would be interesting to have something along when I'm "put into the ground" so that archaeologists and anthropologists in a thousand years from now could have some study material. Which they'd probably misinterpret, but that wouldn't be my problem anymore. At least they could learn about the technology of the era so it would be cool to put something really modern and up-to-date in the box.

Not a bad thought really when you get past the macabre stuff. Leave a trace of your time and help a future scholar. I like.

I can't myself really see what possible difference it makes what you are buried or burned up with.

When you're immortal, you don't worry about such things.

But since I'm not, I'll answer the question. Honestly, I don't think I care to be buried with a knife. If it's a good knife, I'd rather pass it on to someone who can use it or as an heirloom. I almost forgot, in the spirit of the thread, I'll play along. I'd take my Hinderer XM-18.

My Kabar USMC. It was my first real knife and my hiking/camping companion for 12 yrs or so. I'd take that along on my last hike up (down?) to the pearly gates. Maybe I can baton some firewood, roast some s'mores, and smooze St Peter to let me in.

I'd rather leave them behind to be treasured by the living. If I was to be buried with anything it would probably be a diary (not that I currently keep a diary) or something like newspaper clippings if I ever did something I was proud of, in a plastic bag. That way if anyone does dig me up in the future, they'll know who I was and what I did, and if not, at least my secrets really would go with me to the grave :)

That's a cool idea. I think I might do that. But I think I'll just make copies. I journal (ehem, it's not a diary;)) fairly regularly, but I'd want to pass on those life lessons to my kids or friends.

I want them all melted into a blob and dumped in the Ocean. Just so you guys can't have them... :p

How Egyptian!

My son gets my Sebbie. I'll take my combo edge Delica 4 and my Sharpmaker.

LMAO ...... I won't be taking anything with me, I want my ashes scattered in the wilderness area that we hunt in :D

I'd like to take my Busse Satin Jack Tac, laid across my chest, and please put my large, regular Sebenza in my pocket.

I have requested that my ashes be scattered off the California coast, so taking a knife ain't a happening thing.

But if I were going to take one and make it available for posterity to gander at, it would probably be a stockman. Maybe my Queen Cattle King.
