Hello everyone i am looking at getting a mulit-tool. I have been looking at the leatherman rebar and the sidekick. I was wondering:) if any one had used one of the two and how they liked it or not.

I have carried the Rebar for some weeks. It was ok as it is. It has some kind of a basic tool setup. I used it for almost everthing I could do at work. The only thing that was - the philips screwdriver has been used with a screw that was a tad too big, so there are now some marks on the tool.

I don´t have the Sidekick, but I´ve used the Wingman (same setup like Sidekick, but with scissors instead of a saw). It also worked well.

I don´t know what you are interessted in. Or what you would like to read right now. Both are nice tool that get the job done.

But I would highly recommend the Swisstool Spirit as a great multitool.

A great multi-tool is one that matches your needs and tastes well.

Some things to think about and maybe answer so we can better guide you...

1) Pocket carry, belt carry or in your pack carry? This bears on how big the tool should be.

2) Is this a back up to an EDC knife or will this be your EDC knife? Will you be using it for food or will you consider it a "dirty blade" for things like pesticide bags.

3) Do you anticipate needing to frequently use the tool to make cuts (external knife blade) or only rarely?

4) Do you anticipate needing to work with tight screws (locking tools) or only rarely (non-locking is ok)?

5) Do you anticipate doing a lot of wire/cable cutting (replaceable cutters)?

The Rebar is more of a plier tool with beefy pliers. I have it's granddady, the Blast and love it for a carry in the pack tool. Normally I carry a separate EDC knife and never rely on the knife blade of the Blast in that usage. The big thing with the Rebar and Blast is the locking tools.

The Wingman/Sidekick are like starter versions of the Wave/Charge. I have a Wave and like it when working in my yard as it gives me a "dirty" blade to use on nasty stuff. The external blade is a win here. I strongly prefer my Blast for working with screws due to the locking tools (the new Wave has locking tools).

No right or wrong answer here. It's what works best for you.

I have owned a fair number of Leatherman and Victorinox multitools, settling on only a few that seemed to best fit me and my lifestyle. But it's a different set in some ways from years ago when I was into other things. However, if only one of those quality multitools were all that were ever available then and now, I would have been quite happy with it. I lived with an original Super Tool plus Micra for 9 years without any urge to "upgrade" or even try anything else until insidious propaganda from this and similar web sites got me hooked. However, it was a good trip in which I learned a lot. My best advise, really, is shop carefully and be patient. That way, you'll minimize the expense  :D .

The Sidekick is great for a budget tool and very capable but the Wave is much more versatile if you can afford it.

The bit driver, extension, and bit kit has come in handy many times for me.
